The Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes in action against the Bills

Early odds on Super Bowl LV make Kansas City Chiefs the favourites to beat Tampa Bay Buccaneers on 7 February but, after recent weeks, anything is possible, says Max Liu...

"Will home advantage prove decisive? Not according to the early Exchange odds which make the Buccs 2.56/4 outsiders."

The Kansas City Chiefs are odds-on on the Exchange to become the first NFL team to retain their Super Bowl title for 16 seasons.

The defending champions are 1.664/6 after beating the Buffalo Bills 38-24 in the AFC Championship game yesterday.

The last team win successive championships were the New England Patriots in 2005 when they were steered to victory by Tom Brady - the same quarter-back who will be trying to win a record seventh Super Bowl ring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when they face the Chiefs in just under a fortnight.

Brady threw three touchdown passes as the Buccaneers beat the Green Bay Packers 31-26 in a thrilling NFC Championship game on Sunday. The contest had been billed as a battle of star quarter-backs as Brady took on Aaron Rodgers of the Packers. The Green Bay man can take comfort in being a shoo-in for the regular season MVP award.

For the Florida team, it will be their first Super Bowl in 18 years and extra special as it will take place at the Buccaneers' Raymond James Stadium - the first time a team has played in the Super Bowl in their own stadium.

Will home advantage prove decisive? Not according to the early Exchange odds which make the Buccs 2.56/4 outsiders.

In Brady, however, they have a 43-year-old talisman who has seen and done everything in the game, so he won't be daunted by the task facing the Buccs. They upset the odds to beat the Packers and the week before when overcoming the New Orleans Saints.

The Chiefs will be a different order of opponent, however, and in Patrick Mahomes they have a star QB of their own.

There were injury doubts about the 25-year-old, after he suffered a concussion in the previous round, but you wouldn't have guessed it as he threw three touchdown passes to the blitz the Bills.

Super Bowl LV should be a thrilling contest and, on Betting.Betfair, will be going in-depth in the build-up, with Mike Carlson and the rest of our experts' looking for the best betting angles.
