NFL Tipsheet: Mini previews and recommended bets for all Week 9 fixtures

The Patriots face the Broncos this week
The Patriots face the Broncos this week

Tipping a winner in all of this weekend's NFL games sounds like Mission Impossible. Luca Bercelli gives it his best shot....

"There's a Steelers' bandwagon entering town and forgive me if I jump right on it. Anyone who wasn't impressed with their 51-34 win over Indy last week must be bonkers, and how they're not favourites for this one beats me"

Arizona Cardinals @ Dallas Cowboys
Sunday 18:00

With a big question-mark over QB Tony Romo's fitness and a strong, blitzing defense to face, the Cowboys have their work cut out this week. The Cards win ugly, but they get it done; and now that danger-man Larry Fitzgerald is seemingly back on the radar of QB Carson Palmer, they are more well-rounded on offense. Keep an eye on team news; if Romo starts, there will probably be points on offer. If not go for the straight win.

Recommended Bet
Back the Arizona Cardinals @ 2.111/10

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday 18:00

I'm not a big fan of the Bengals but now that Carrot Top has favourite receiver A.J. Green back in the rotation they immediately become a much better team. I still can't back Cincinnati -10.5pts; if I did and they lost I'd beat myself up with a set of nunchucks. I'll take the over 43.5pts and be nice to myself instead.

Recommended Bet
Back over 43.5pts @ 2.01/1

New York Jets @ Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday 18:00

Starting Mike Vick at quarterback is an obvious improvement for the Jets, but the QB position is just the most glaring area of mediocrity in a group that hasn't just forgotten how to win...they've forgotten how to play. Vick will conjure up a couple of wins before season's end. This won't be one of them.

Recommended Bet
Back over 41.5pts @ 1.991/1

Philadelphia Eagles @ Houston Texans
Sunday 18:00

Eagles' QB Nick Foles has been decidedly shaky in recent weeks, so that makes for a great match-up as far as the Texans are concerned, especially since Philly's O-line has injuries. Set against that however, is the likely return of Darren Sproles, a rare rusher/receiver who has the ability to deflect attention away from his quarterback and snag screen passes for big yardage. A tight one, but the Eagles should just nick it.

Recommended Bet
Back the Philadelphia Eagles to win @ 1.845/6

San Diego Chargers @ Miami Dolphins
Sunday 18:00

Miami are a different beast now that QB Ryan Tannehill has stopped playing like a headless Dolphin, winning three of their last four and doing so quite comfortably. The Chargers on the other hand need to rebound from a two game skid, but this is not a great match-up for them facing as they will an excellent passing defense. It'll be tight but I'll stay with the fish.

Recommended Bet
Back the Miami Dolphins to win @ 1.8810/11

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Cleveland Browns
Sunday 18:00

I can't help feeling that, despite a W to their name this season, the Bucs are, (how can I put this), absolutely rubbish. They've flattered to deceive more times than I've had Zinger Tower meals, and as a result coach Lovie Smith's seat on the sidelines is well into its ejector mode. The Browns aren't much better, and have been scraping by with Hoyer at quarterback. If needed I've no doubt that Manziel will be thrown into the mix, so they either win with Hoyer, or provide a platform for a comeback win by Johnny Football. Either way they should get it done.

Recommended Bet
Back the Cleveland Browns -6.5pts @ 1.981/1

Washington Redskins @ Minnesota Vikings
Sunday 18:00

Did Albania really travel to Portugal and beat them 1-0 in the European Championship qualifiers on September 7th? Did Washington really beat Dallas 20-17 last week in their own back yard? Will the Redskins beat Minnesota this week with RGIII at quarterback? Yes (unbelievably),  yes (unbelievably), and no, they'll come back down to earth with a bump and Teddy (Bridgewater) will gain a few more admirers.

Recommended Bet
Back the Minnesota Vikings to win @ 2.01/1

St Louis Rams @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday 21:05

The 49ers were smashed by Denver two weeks ago at Mile High, and they've had a long time to mull over that defeat with their bye week coming immediately afterwards. I think the experience will have a galvanising effect as they are still a high quality outfit. They beat the Rams in their own back yard by 14 points in week six. I see no reason why they won't achieve a similar margin of victory at home.

Recommended Bet
Back the San Francisco 49ers -10pts @ 2.111/10

Denver Broncos @ New England Patriots
Sunday 21:25

What a blockbuster fixture this is. Both teams come into this with four-game winning streaks and hotter than the centre of the sun (well maybe not quite that hot but you get the point). Denver are currently 3.7511/4 to win the big show but if they lose here, and I think they might, the outright market will be a mess. The Pats have every chance at home and I'll take them with the points.

Recommended Bet
Back the New England Patriots +3.5pts @ 1.910/11

Oakland Raiders @ Seattle Seahawks
Sunday 21:25

The Seahawks sneaked a win against Carolina last week and that should free them up to play with a tad less anxiety than has restricted them lately. They couldn't have wished for an easier fixture to follow up with, and they should squash the winless Raiders with ease.

Recommended Bet
Back the Seattle Seahawks -14.5pts @ 2.01/1

Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday 01:30

There's a Steelers' bandwagon entering town and forgive me if I jump right on it. Anyone who wasn't impressed with their 51-34 win over Indy last week must be bonkers, and how they're not favourites for this one beats me. Ok so they did get whipped 26-6 by the Ravens in week two, but this one is at Heinz Field, and that fact in tandem with last week's momentum should help to reverse that early season loss.

Recommended Bet
Back the Pittsburgh Steelers +2.0pts @ 2.01/1
Best Bet

Indianapolis Colts @ New York Giants
Tuesday 01:30

I've been with Indy all season and I'll be sticking with them against the inconsistent Giants even after their embarrassing loss versus the Steelers last week. Colts' quarterback Andrew Luck will soon be the best player in all of football, and with him at the helm, a shoot-out (which this will inevitably become) is only going to go one way.

Recommended Bet
Back the Indianapolis Colts to win @ 1.674/6
