NFL 2015/16: The best bets from the Betting.Betfair team

Miami are a popular dark horse pick

We asked our five NFL contributors for their betting thoughts on the 2015-16 season ahead of the opening fixture between Pittsburgh and New England, here are their responses...

"I'm not saying New England will turn into whipping boys overnight but can consistently be opposed giving up juicy starts to supposedly weaker opposition, especially within their own division where Miami are rising. A porous secondary gives anyone a shot at challenging the champs."

Bart Barden
Main Super Bowl bet

Although I would love to go with the Seahawks as they have the greatest probability to win the Super Bowl, for value, given the odds I would go each-way on Indianapolis Colts @ 10.09/1. The offense has improved and they have one of the easiest schedules of the top eight teams.

Dark horse Super Bowl bet
Miami have all the pieces to make a good run. Good defense, improved offense, and solid coaching. They are in a tough division but if their QB Ryan Tannehill plays like he got paid in the off-season, they have a chance to make it to the big dance

Team to oppose on all occasions
San Francisco 49ers - such a fall from grace. A perennial championship contender to a team looking for an identity, rebuilding a proud defence and a quarterback who is not built or skilled to play from behind.

Special bet from the Sportsbook side markets
LeSean McCoy Season Rushing Yards, Back Under 1,250 yards @ 1.728/11. Between injuries and a horrible offensive line, LeSean will have a hard time finding major yardage this season. In prior seasons his rushing totals have been inflated by long runs from scrimmage, which he will not have the benefit of having this year.

Neil Monnery
Main Super Bowl bet

The Seattle Seahawks. I detest taking the favourite but they won in 2014, were one boneheaded play away in 2015 and in the off-season they've finally given Russell Wilson a great pair of hands to throw to in Jimmy Graham. They are the short price on the exchange but rightly so.

Dark horse Super Bowl bet
I really wanted to say the Dallas Cowboys so I could write a small essay about how great and important Sean Lee is but the loss of DeMarco Murray is a big one. I still think they'll be in the mix but currently trading at 26.025/1 it is hard to look past the Baltimore Ravens as the dark horse bet of choice.

A team to oppose on all occasions
I was torn between the Oakland Raiders and Washington's NFL franchise but I'll go with the former. Oakland play in a tough division where they may well go 0-6. Washington have the RGIII issue that will dominate but they'll fight and claw to a win or two more than the team from the bay.

Special bet from the Sportsbook side markets
The Arizona Cardinals are trading at 2.265/4 to win over 8.5 games and that is staggering to me. I'm not saying Carson Palmer is a great QB, but that defence is suffocating and if all you need to win games week in, week out is 17 points then I'd back a Palmer-led offense to do that on at least nine occasions.

Neil Harvey
Main Super Bowl bet

Indianapolis Colts for me. New signings Andre Johnson and Frank Gore give Indy the second top receiver and star running back they were lacking. The Colts now have the best offense in the NFL but are available at almost twice the price of the Seahawks.

Dark horse Super Bowl bet
Miami are a nice price given what they have in their favour. Key players are young, talented and improving, and they have strengthened on both offense and defense.

Team to oppose on all occasions
Cleveland boast no offense at all and a losing record seems a certainty.

Special bet from the Sportsbook side markets
San Francsico 49ers to win less than 6.5 games @ 1.664/6. The 49ers are aging rapidly and have a nasty looking schedule.

Luca Bercelli
Main Super Bowl bet

It's got to be the favourites - Seattle. The best team in the NFL got a lot better after picking up Jimmy Graham.

Dark horse Super Bowl bet
Minnesota Vikings - 48.047/1 to win the Super Bowl on the Exchange - have a great young quarterback backed up by an Adrian Peterson with a point to prove.

Team to oppose on all occasions
Call me Mr Controversial - it's Denver. Peyton Manning has gone at the game

Special bet from the Sportsbook side markets
Back Leonard Williams to be Defensive rookie of the year @ 6.05/1. This is a one-horse race.

Romilly Evans
Main Super Bowl bet

Indy Colts. Peerless Andrew Luck is at the head of an improving army in an easy division. Top seeding from the weaker Conference should ensue, as should a debut bow at Super Bowl 50.

Dark horse Super Bowl bet
Philly Eagles. The great Chip Kelly experiment finally comes to a fantastic fruition with a unique blend of all-stars, mavericks and niche specialists, each harnessed behind Kelly's signature structure of elasticity. Breakthrough or breakdown?

Team to oppose on all occasions
I'm not saying New England will turn into whipping boys overnight but can consistently be opposed giving up juicy starts to supposedly weaker opposition, especially within their own division where Miami are rising. A porous secondary gives anyone a shot at challenging the champs.

Special bet from the Sportsbook side markets
Miami Dolphins over 9.5 Wins @ 2.26/5 or better. The Fins are for real this term and can benefit from New England's fading supremacy. Ryan Tannehill and Ndamukong Suh can corral their troops on either side of the ball.
