Will Rob Gronkowski be available when the Texans visit the Pats next week?

Mike Carlson looks back at all the action from Week Two of the NFL season and gives his verdict on a tight Monday Night Football encounter in New York...

"There are still holes to be patched. Which may also be the case with Gronk's Groin. If he has to miss time; and I don't for a moment think we'll know until right before game time, the Pats' offense will have a serious playmaker vacuum"

Green Bay plagued by offensive injury woes

Do you ever wake up Monday morning and wonder what it was that made you do whatever it was you did over the weekend? When you're trying to forecast the NFL, Mondays are often like that, and results you analysed and debated in your head suddenly seem to make perfect sense, so why didn't you see it then?

That's the way I look at the Sunday Night game, Green Bay at Atlanta, where the Falcons did all the things right that they were doing when they turned the corner late in last season, and Green Bay showed some of the same weaknesses we thought, based on their win over Seattle, they were starting to overcome.

But one thing you also need to consider is injuries, which is not always easy because teams keep such information as close to their chests as they can, lest they help their opponents prepare. So we didn't know until Sunday afternoon (UK time) that both Green Bay's starting offensive tackles would be out for the game.

That would have changed my attitude toward their ability to upset the Falcons in the debut of their new stadium, though it would have re-enforced my faith in the 54 point over, which the teams dutifully cleared.

Pats could have big void to fill

I probably should have liked the over in New Orleans too, and had more faith that Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski would come through with points as well as the win I did forecast.

Here too, when I wrote the picks I still thought Dont'a Hightower would play; the Pats' D played better, but there are still holes to be patched. Which may also be the case with Gronk's Groin. If he has to miss time; and I don't for a moment think we'll know until right before game time, the Pats' offense will have a serious playmaker vacuum.

I don't regret being tempted by the Eagles on the road; they were in a position to win that game, but Carson Wentz did less and Akeem Hunt more than I expected. But Denver getting two points at home against Dallas was a gift they didn't need to even open, routing the Cowboys. If only they offered odds on thunderstorms stopping the action in mid game.

More questions than answers in New York

On Monday Night Football tonight, it's an ugly match-up. The Giants' offensive line is a mess, they can't really run the ball, and if Odell Beckham doesn't play, which is what I expect will happen, their passing game is controllable. The Lions, on the other hand, can pass the ball, and rookie Kenny Golladay teaed with Marvin Jones and Golden Tate gives them a dangerous trio of pass catchers.

They can't run the ball either, but their backs are good pass catchers too. So the question in this game is whether you think the excellent Giants' D can slow down Matt Stafford enough to let the stumbling Giants' offense win the game. Detroit's defense isn't a huge worry, but the other question is whether you think the Giants can actually take advantage of that.

I'm not crazy about the Giants giving three, but I'm not crazy about the Lions with three either. Under 42 at 20/21 is probably the one I like best, but I'd be more inclined to head to the specials: Paul Perkins to gain under 42.5 yards rushing at 5/6, Evan Engram to go over 34.5 yards receiving also at 5/6 look good to me. Engram at 4/1 to have a TD with a Giants' win might be the longshot with which to end Gameweek Two.
