There's a lot of offensive talent in Philadelphia and Sunday's early game looks like an entertaining one to Luca Bercelli
"Philadelphia still look like a team that could explode at any time and I’m siding with them to bring the thunder this week."
The Eagles covered the spread for us last week but were agonisingly denied the outright win when Pittsburgh scored a field goal in the dying seconds. Far from convincing on that occasion, Philadelphia still look like a team that could explode at any time and I'm siding with them to bring the thunder this week.
On paper the Eagles are such a well-rounded team that it's slightly puzzling that they haven't impressed more in compiling their division-topping 3-2 record. Sunday night v the Lions is their chance to really kick on and spark their season into life.
The ingredients are all there - Magical Michael Vick at quarterback; LeSean McCoy at running back (a position you'd better be good at in Philly if you want Vick to hand you the ball), and two receivers who complement each other perfectly. The speedy/deep threat of DeSean Jackson (391 yards so far) and the elusive big body of Tight End Brent Celek (324 yards).
Amazingly the Eagles have no injury worries whatsoever (one of only two teams in the league who can say that), and it's hard to overstate what a positive situation that is.
On the downside Vick has fumbled the ball too often this season but has apparently spent all week with one tucked up underneath his arm in order to address the problem. A novel approach but at least he's trying.
On the other side of the ball the Eagles D has started pretty well, ranking ninth overall against the pass and 12th against the rush. They'll need to defend the pass better than ever in this one as Megatron is coming to town; and as you'll all be aware if you call yourselves football fans; the receiver formerly known as Calvin Johnson is almost unplayable .
Can Nnamdi Asomugha and co keep Calvin quiet? That's the $50,000 question and one that will go a long way to determining the outcome of this contest.
