San Francisco Giants @ Cincinnati Reds (Cincinnati lead series 2-0)
Cincinnati return home from San Francisco with a 2-0 series lead, needing just one win to advance to the National League Championship series. The Reds had a 50-31 home record in the regular season. and a 4-3 record against the Giants over the season. The pitching match-up this evening sees the Reds' Homer Bailey (13-10, 3.68 ERA in the regular season) take on the Giants' Ryan Vogelsong (14-9, 3.37 ERA). There is nothing to chose between these two pitchers, however Bailey pitched a no-hitter on 28 September. I think Cincinnati's home advantage will see them take this game, and with it the series.
Detroit Tigers @ Oakland Athletics (Detroit Tigers lead series 2-0)
Unlike the San Francisco Giants, the Detroit Tigers were able to capitalise on home advantage, and they travel to Oakland with a 2-0 series lead. Oakland give the nod to Brett Anderson (4-2, 2.57 ERA) tonight. Anderson's last start was against Detroit where he lasted 2.1 innings, leaving the game with a strained right oblique. He had just recovered from Tommy John surgery also. The Tigers start with Anibal Sanchez (9-13, 3.86 ERA) who has conceded just one run over his last two starts. I think Sanchez's form can be the difference here, and Detroit will unfortunately end Oakland's remarkable season.
