For the first time in 50 years all 30 Major League teams will play on Opening Day. With 15 games to choose from Ben Steele looks at three of the televised matchups and picks out his best bets...

"Clayton Kershaw will set a Dodgers franchise record with his 8th consecutive Opening Day start; and with good reason. At 30 years old, the Texan is undoubtedly one of the best pitchers in the game and holds an exceptional record in matches against San Francisco."

Miami begins life after Giancarlo Stanton with a tough game against a talented Chicago squad. With the likes of Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez in their lineup the Cubs have a number of run scoring options and will be looking to score heavily against the relatively inexperienced Jose Urena. While the Marlins had one of the best defensive units in the league last year it is tough to look past the sheer firepower available to Cubs manager Joe Maddon. Expect Chicago to win comfortably.

Astros @ Rangers - Back Springer to have fast start

The defending World Series Champion Houston Astros have had a strong preseason (21-9) and will kick off their season with Justin Verlander on the mound. The 35-year-old pitcher was traded to the Astros late last season and was unbeaten in five starts for his new team. With reigning American League MVP Jose Altuve and the big hitting George Springer providing run support the Astros should have enough to see off their in-state rivals.

Giants @ Dodgers - Kershaw can pour misery on Giants

Live on BT Sport 3

Clayton Kershaw will set a Dodgers franchise record with his 8th consecutive Opening Day start; and with good reason. At 30 years old, the Texan is undoubtedly one of the best pitchers in the game and holds an exceptional record in matches against San Francisco. In 40 career starts against the Giants, Kershaw is 22-9 with an ERA of just 1.60. The Giants come in to the season with a number of injury worries and after an average preseason (15-16) will be looking to hold on to the coat-tails of their division rivals until they are back to full strength.
