With the trade deadline just two days away most MLB teams are focusing on improving their teams before the playoff run. Only seven games will be played tonight, Ben Steele previews three of the best...

"The Angels will expect the inimitable Mike Trout to improve on his team best 34 home runs as he continues to build on his Hall of Fame calibre career."

Home comforts the key for Corbin

Atlanta Braves @ Washington Nationals
Tuesday 00:05 BST

The Washington Nationals host the Atlanta Braves knowing that they need to start making some ground in the NL East playoff race; and they couldn't ask for a better start to lead the charge. When playing at home, Patrick Corbin has the second best ERA (1.68) in the majors, bettered only by Hyun-Jin Ryu of the Dodgers, and will expect to continue his good form after performing well against Atlanta earlier in July. With Dallas Keuchel in similarly good form for the Braves, look for a low scoring game with Corbin's home expertise giving him the edge.

Fireworks on the horizon in Colorado

LA Dodgers @ Colorado Rockies
Tuesday 01:40 BST

The Los Angeles Dodgers head to Colorado looking to continue their impressive hitting form. No National League team have hit more home runs than LA this year and facing a pitcher coming off an injury tonight they will expect to have success again at the famously hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Rockies pitcher Jon Gray has had a solid, if unspectacular, season and tonight will be one of his biggest tests, facing Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy, two of the biggest hitters in the game, the 27-year-old hurler may well struggle to find any success. Gray will hope that his opposite number, Kenta Maeda, has similar struggles against a Rockies lineup who lack power hitting but are still a top five offence. Expect a lot of runs as a pair of differing, but equally effective, offences face off.

Comfortable Angels win expected in Detroit

Detroit Tigers @ LA Angels
Tuesday 03:10 BST

The Los Angeles Angels won last night to avoid being swept by the Baltimore Orioles and will hope to build on that win as they head for a series against the worst team in the MLB, the Detroit Tigers.

Jaime Barria starts for the Angels for the first time since a dominant outing against the Dodgers last week; he faces Jordan Zimmerman who is yet to earn a win this season. Zimmerman is 0-8 with a 7.57 ERA, a sign of how poor the Tigers have been this season. The Angels will expect the inimitable Mike Trout to improve on his team best 34 home runs as he continues to build on his Hall of Fame calibre career. The Angels should win tonight, and win well.
