A month in to the new Major League season and we are beginning to see some trends develop. Bryce Harper is getting walked whenever possible, Johnny Cueto is pitching at his dominant best and the Boston Red Sox have swept aside all before them. Ben Steele is back to pick his best bets from tonight's action...
"Tonight, the defending champions bring out the big guns, in the shape of Verlander. Since joining towards the end of last season, the six-time all-star is unbeaten in his Astros career and he is yet to really be in any trouble at all this season."
Verlander can fight off Trout & Pujols

The irresistible force meets the immovable object as the big hitting Los Angeles Angels face off against Justin Verlander and the Houston Astros. The Angels have hit a league leading 32 home runs this season and have leant on extra base hits throughout the series with the Astros but they have been facing up against the bottom end on the Houston pitching rotation.
Tonight, the defending champions bring out the big guns, in the shape of Verlander. Since joining towards the end of last season, the six-time all-star is unbeaten in his Astros career and he is yet to really be in any trouble at all this season.
I would expect the likes of Mike Trout and Albert Pujols to offer Verlander his sternest test so far but the 35-year-old won't be without support of his own with Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa showing an ability to get on base almost at will. A win for the home side seems like the way to go.
Lester can pick up third win
Cubs @ Indians

A rematch of the 2016 World Series sees the 12-9 Cleveland Indians play the 11-9 Chicago Cubs and the key to this game appears to be who scores first. The Indians have won just two games this season when they have gone behind and are comfortably the worst team in the entire league when they are chasing the game; by comparison the Cubs are the second best National League side when batting with a lead. If Cubs pitcher Jon Lester can keep the score down early it looks like he'll pick up his third win of the season.
Expect a low scoring affair in Philadelphia
Diamondbacks @ Phillies
Thursday, 00:05 BST
Two former Cy Young award winners go head to head in Philadelphia as Jake Arrieta and Zack Greinke both take aim at their third win. Both looked to be at their dominant best in their last outings, Greinke holding the San Francisco Giants to just one run and Arrieta allowing the Pittsburgh Pirates to get a solitary hit as both men played impressively. Both men will be backed up by defensive outfits that are amongst the best in the league when it comes to runs allowed and you can expect a low scoring encounter tonight.
