Memphis hitting top form
Two of the form teams in the league clash tonight and the Grizzlies will be looking to make it six straight wins. Ja Morant has returned to the team and he gives them some star power. The reigning Rookie of the Year has shaken the rust off after a few weeks out and he looks to be getting stronger and stronger.
But where Memphis has really built this run is with their depth. They are getting so much out of their bench right now and that makes them so tough to beat. While starters Dillon Brooks and Kyle Anderson have not been at their best, they can still win because of the scoring power they have to come in.
Portland blown apart by injuries
The Trail Blazers were really hitting their stride. Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum had really got off to a hot start but an injury to the latter will now miss at least four weeks with a hairline fracture in his foot. Lillard is one of the best players in the game and can certainly carry a team, but without McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic who is out for at least six weeks, the next month or two Dame is going to get such a heavy workload.
Carmelo Anthony is in line to pick up some of those minutes and while he is, of course, past his best, he can still contribute. Robert Covington, an offseason acquisition, has been disappointing so far but that will not matter if he can step up while Portland get through this injury crisis.
Memphis can win as underdogs
Portland are one of my favourite teams in the league and I will always believe Lillard gives them a chance, but the Grizzlies are playing some really good basketball right now and these injuries just make it too hard for the Trail Blazers against that deep bench. Take Memphis as slight underdogs here to go on and make it six in a row.
