Support for the fuzzy headed Scot is building around the land as week two approaches fever pitch. But a dose of reality, in the form of some Spanish biceps, will be lurking in the next round.
Andy Murray, [30.0] to win the tournament, will carry the hopes of the nation today when he takes on eighth seed Richard Gasquet [55.0] on Centre Court.
Murray has worked hard to improve his rapport with the SW19 crowd this year and Saturday's impressive three sets to one victory over Tommy Haas lit the fuse for a fevered second week.
But, as the Scot bids to go one better than his 2006 fourth-round appearance, Gasquet will be no walk-over and in their two previous meetings the Frenchman has emerged victorious. If Murray does win it is likely that he will meet Rafael Nadal [3.15] in the next round.
The world number two has been in formidable form since arriving in England for the grass season, following up his Stella Artois tournament win by easing past his three Wimbledon opponents so far. Nadal meets the 17th seed Mikhail Youzhny [420.0] on court number one. Some have questioned the Russian's temperament and his high price may be in part due to the incident at this year's Sony Ericsson Open when he hit himself so hard with his racket that he required medical attention to his head. But it is worth noting that Youzhny defeated Nadal 6-0, 6-1 earlier this year.
Many people are tipping Nadal to meet five times Wimbledon champion Roger Federer [1.81] in the final for the third time. The world number one plays 20th seed Lleyton Hewitt on centre court this afternoon. The Australian has been impressive so far, disposing of Simone Bolelli in straight sets in the last round.
But Federer's Wimbledon form has discredited reports of his demise following his French Open final humiliation at the hands of Nadal and he is expected to make it through to the last eight.
Marat Safin [55.0], second round conqueror of thrid seed Novak Djokovic, takes on Stanislas Wawrinka [180.0] last on court one.
In the women's tournament, fourth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova [22.0] meets Agnieszka Radwanska [17.5], seeded ten places below her.
After powering her way past former-champion Amelie Mauresmo, the much-fancied Venus Williams [3.05] faces the unseeded Alisa Kleybanova [210.0].
Nicole Vaidisova [21.0] and Anna Chakvetadze [44.0] are on court one.
