Sabine Lisicki could easily become a top 10 ranked player in the near future.
"Lisicki will no doubt struggle on her serve if her shoulder is bothering her and Rezai finds it hard to hold serve even without an injury, so expect there to be a lot of breaks in this match."
Ben Caudell tells us why Sabine Lisicki should have enough in the tank to dispose of Arvane Rezai and the best pick from the men's draw.
Arvane Rezai (FRA) v Sabine Lisicki (GER) -
Sabine Lisicki is back in action today after taking some time off to recover from a right shoulder injury. Having pulled out of the Cincinnati premier event without hitting a ball and retiring from her third round match in Los Angeles against Sorana Cirstea a week before, it didn't look promising for the young German starlet, seeded for the first time at this year's US Open.
After completing lots of rehab on the crooked shoulder which was impairing her serve, it seems that after seeing a doctor the shoulder is not as bad as it was first thought to be.
These two have never played each other before, both possess attacking game styles from the back of the court going through points in quick succession. Lisicki will no doubt struggle on her serve if her shoulder is bothering her and Rezai finds it hard to hold serve even without an injury, so expect there to be a lot of breaks in this match.
Rezai recently defeated Dinara Safina at the Toronto Premier Event so will be full of confidence going into this match. But if Sabine Lisicki's shoulder holds up, the difference in class will show and the German will continue her rise up the rankings and into the top 10.
Selection: Back Sabine Lisicki @ [1.85] to win match
Teimuraz Gabashvilli (RUS) v Jesse Levine (USA)
This isn't the most exciting match-up to get involved with, both players have struggled with form recently, hence the reason why both their ranking have been stagnant over the last year.
Ranked 74 and 135 respectively neither player possess the weapons to challenge the top players at this year's US Open and whoever succeeds in going through to the second round will find it hard to go any further.
Jesse Levine is playing at home so is understandably the favourite coming into this match. The left-hander Levine has never made it past the first round of the US Open but will surely see this match as his best chance against a player who has a 3-7 record against lefties.
Gabashvilli's three early exits from his last three events will not inspire confidence for the Russian and with his lack of consistency on the hard court I will be backing the home favourite.
Selection: Back Jesse Levine @ [1.8] to win match
Best Bet - Back Sabine Lisicki @ 1.85 to defeat Arvane Rezai (US Open ladies 1st round)
