British number one Andy Murray's return to action from a wrist injury at the Boodles Challenge has been delayed until later this week.

The 20-year-old Scot, who is currently at a career-high eighth in the world rankings, has not played competitively since suffering the wrist injury during his match against Filippo Volandri in the first round of the Hamburg Masters on May 15.

It resulted in him missing the French Open and Artois Championships while also leaving him in a race to be ready for the start of Wimbledon next Monday.

Murray was due to play on the opening day at Stoke Park on Tuesday as he looks to prove his fitness ahead of next week's main event at SW19, but his agent, Patricio Apey, has confirmed he is not quite ready and will hang fire until later in the week.

He said: "Andy was not ready to play a match today but the beauty of the tournament is that we can take it day by day.

"There are eight players in the field and then a series of exhibition matches and we will leave a slot open for Andy."

Murray's injury problems have seen him drift in the betting for Wimbledon with the Scot trading at 55 to win at SW19. Roger Federer is still red-hot favourite at 1.47, with Rafael Nadal 8.6 and Andy Roddick 19.
