Murray on the mend

Coach Brad Gilbert insists Andy Murray is recovering well and may even make his return to action in next week's Boodles Challenge exhibition event.

The 20-year-old was forced to miss the French Open and this week's Artois Championship with a wrist injury picked up last month - but he still climbed up to ninth in the world rankings as both Ivan Ljubicic and Tommy Haas failed to defend ranking points at Roland Garros.

With Wimbledon fast approaching (starting on June 26), Murray is facing a race against time to get himself ready but Gilbert is confident his charge will soon be back on the court.

"Andy's getting a lot better," Gilbert told BBC Sport. "Hopefully he's going to be playing Boodles next week and Wimbledon's around the corner.

"Right now he's getting better every day and we keep our fingers crossed."

However, the American has warned that the British number one will not be rushed back into action and will only play once he has fully recovered.

"He won't play unless he's 100% - if that's the case then you'll see him," said Gilbert.

"Andy plays so well on this surface, and so few guys play well on this surface - if he's right then it's right for him to be out there."

Given his recent injury problems, there has been little support for Murray in the 'Winner with Federer' market for Wimbledon so far and he is currently on offer at 50, although he was recently matched at 75 to small stakes.

However, punters will undoubtedly keep an eye on developments and the young Scot is sure to be popular in a number of other markets that will open up nearer the time.

Roger Federer, who is looking to make it five Wimbledon titles on the bounce, is unsurprisingly an overwhelming favourite at 1.49.
