Nikolay Davydenko has crashed out of the Halle event at the second round after defeat to Germany's Florian Mayer.

The second seed struggled to get to grips with Mayer's double-handed back hand and went down 6-4 6-4 at the Gerry Weber Open.

In his current form, Davydenko doesn't look likely to make an impact at Wimbledon, especially as the world number three has never won back-to-back matches on grass.

The 26-year-old, who has only ever reached the second round at SW19, is trading at 310 to win the third Grand Slam of the season.

Meanwhile, sixth seed Mikhail Youzhny is also out of the tournament having been forced to withdraw due to a back problem.
Marcos Baghdatis and Jarkko Nieminen are through to the quarter finals, after victories over Robin Soderling and Andrei Pavel respectively.

Tomas Berdych is the 2.66 favourite to win the event, with Baghdatis next best at 4.1 and James Blake trading at 4.3.
