Stan Wawrinka: 2014 Aussie Open champion

Stan Wawrinka's Australian Open victory may have been a surprise to many - but not Betting.Betfair tipsters Sean Calvert and Jack Houghton who picked him out pre-tournament. In our regular round-up of the best tips of the past week, we also look back at Ed Hawkins backing England to win the fourth ODI (the men in white coats were hovering)...

"If you had placed £10 on each of Sean's tips throughout the tournament, you would have emerged with a profit of £647.70, before commission. Tasty."

In his tournament preview ahead of the Aussie Open, Sean Calvert suggested getting on board Wawrinka at a chunky 70.069/1, while his two secondary bets - back Berdych to win his quarter and lay Murray to win his quarter - were also winners.

If you had placed £10 on each of Sean's tips throughout the tournament, you would have emerged with a profit of £647.70, before commission. Tasty.

Jack Houghton, who provides a stats based look at each tennis major, picked out three winner bets ahead of the Open - Wawrinka at 48.047/1 Roger Federer at 29.028/1 and Rafael Nadal at 4.94/1.

Due to the order of the semi-finals these were the last three players left in the draw, so locking in a profit would have been straightforward.

Elsewhere in Australia and concerns were raised about the wellbeing of Ed Hawkins after he tipped up England to win the fourth ODI at 2.89/5 but Alastair Cook's men pulled off a minor miracle and emerged with their first victory of the entire tour.

Ed's tip for Aaron Finch to top score for the Aussies in the series also paid out at 4.1.

A good week for our daily football tipsters, with 'Against All Odds' man Paul Robinson emerging with a 3.21 profit from his seven recommendations, with the highlight a 1.412/5 lay in the Forfar v Rangers game.

Jonno Turner, meanwhile, made a 6.6 points profit on his his daily 'Home and Away' columns, including Nice to beat Marseille at a huge 7.06/1 in one of . One of his Twitter followers wasn't too keen on the bet (we assume the letter is in the post).
