Australian Open Women's Betting: Stosur to fly the flag in Melbourne

Stosur should make light work of her clash with Pironkova
Stosur should make light work of her clash with Pironkova

As things heat up both on and off the court, Abelson Info are back to find some value bets with the second round matches set to get underway...

'Home favourite Sam Stosur will also be confident of making it through as she looks to build some momentum following her relatively comfortable victory over Klara Zakopalova last time out.'

World number one and tournament favourite Serena Williams is back in action on Wednesday, and is predictably a heavy favourite to dismiss the challenge of Vesna Dolonc.
Williams dropped just three games and took less than an hour to defeat Australian wildcard Ashleigh Barty in the first round, which allayed any fears of her making a slow start.

Similarly, Na Li was just as impressive in her first round destruction of Ana Konjuh, and the Chinese star will be confident of joining Williams in the next round.

Home favourite Sam Stosur will also be confident of making it through as she looks to build some momentum following her relatively comfortable victory over Klara Zakopalova last time out. The Australian ace faces Tsvetana Pironkova next, and although the world number 57 may appear a tricky proposition on paper, Stosur has had few problems when facing her in their previous three meetings.

The 17th seed has won all three matches without dropping a single set, with Pironkova barely making an impact in their last two clashes with the last coming as recently as Sofia in 2013. As a result, backed by a noisy home crowd, backing Stosur to come through with minimal fuss could be worthy of an investment as she looks to ensure that there is home representation in the next round.

Elsewhere, a trio of young American stars will be looking to upset the odds on Wednesday with Madison Keys leading the way when she faces Jie Zheng. Zheng had a fantastic opening day to the tournament with her win over 12th seed Roberta Vinci, but historically she has had problems against her 18-year-old rival.

Keys won both of their meetings in straight sets last year, and as she continues to push to climb the world rankings, she will be hoping to claim another major scalp and extend her stay in Australia. Fatigue may be a factor given her marathon first round win which lasted over two and a half hours, but considering it's still early in the tournament and her youthful exuberance, she should have enough to continue her impressive form.

Alison Riske is also one to look out for, and she will want to follow up her win over 23rd seed Elena Vesnina with another significant win when she takes on Yanina Wickmayer.
The pair have split their previous four meetings, although Riske did win their clash on this surface last year in New Haven and could be a decent bet to prevail again.

The likes of Sabine Lisicki, Angelique Kerber and Ana Ivanovic are all in action on Wednesday, they are all expected to advance and are rightfully favourites against their seemingly inferior rivals.

Recommended Bets:
Back Stosur to beat Pironkova 2-0 @ 2.3411/8
Back Keys to beat Zheng 2-0 @ 2.01/1
Back Riske to beat Wickmayer 2-0 @ 2.0421/20
