Australian Open Women's Betting: Li to prevail in battle with Bouchard

Na Li faces a fight to make the Final..

Two time runner-up Na Li faces first-time Grand Slam semi-finalist Eugenie Bouchard on Thursday, and Abelson Info are back to preview their encounter...

'This is now a fourth semi-final at the Australian Open in the last five years for Li, and she has gone on to reach the final on two of the previous three occasions.'

The shocks continue in Melbourne after defending champion Victoria Azarenka joined Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova on a flight home after being defeated on Wednesday. That now leaves Li as the highest seed remaining in the tournament, and she prepares for her next match after two scintillating performances.

It could have all been so different for the Chinese ace as she saved a match point against Safarova in the third round, but after a talk with her coach she has been playing high level tennis ever since and looks destined for another appearance in the final.

This is now a fourth semi-final at the Australian Open in the last five years for Li, and she has gone on to reach the final on two of the previous three occasions.

With Agnieszka Radwanska potentially waiting in the final, provided that the fourth and fifth seeds respectively make it through unscathed, Li will see this as a favourable scenario of adding to her Grand Slam collection. However, it won't be simple as she prepares to face a player 12 years her junior, as world number 31 Eugenie Bouchard has had a fairytale week and a half in Australia thus far.

For those that weren't already aware of her after her exploits last year, she has undoubtedly made a name for herself with her more recent performances. This is a first Grand Slam semi-final appearance for the young Canadian starlet, but don't expect her to be overawed by the situation as she has already proven how she is able to step up on important points.

Li won their only previous encounter which came in Montreal back in 2012, as she secured a straight sets victory over the young pretender. However, a lot has changed since that meeting, and she will be wary of the threat posed by Bouchard who will now be looking to extend her memorable week.

There is a temptation to back the underdog for this one, as she has been consistent throughout the tournament while Li is capable of having an off-day which leaves her vulnerable and prone to an upset. Naturally as the more experienced and higher-seeded player, Li has been installed as a strong favourite for this one. However, this isn't going to be another routine win and given results this week, Bouchard will give Li a tough time but I think the fourth seed will come through in three.

Meanwhile, the same applies to Dominika Cibulkova given her run this year, as she has now scored three upsets in a row against seeded players including Halep, Sharapova and Navarro.

However, seemingly boosted by a surprise win over Azarenka, back Radwanska to now go on and reach Saturday's showpiece event and add a sixth win in seven meetings against the Slovakian.
