Aiden Grimshaw is the new favourite to win X Factor 2010

"FYD were the first act to perform on Saturday and as one of their members said, that is usually a hindrance due to their performance being ‘forgotten’ by the time the voting lines open."

Two of the 16 acts have been eliminated from this year's X Factor, but it was Aiden Grimshaw that stole the early honours says Mike Norman.

Nicolo Festa became the first act to be eliminated from this year's X Factor after coming bottom of the opening week's public vote. He was quickly followed by FYD - the quintet losing out in a tense-filled sing-off against controversial finalist Katie Waissel.

Festa - who was available to back at [9.2] in the First Elimination market - failed to impress on Saturday night performing Lady Gaga's Just Dance and was visibly shocked at his demise. But for FYD their elimination will be hard to take. They were the first act to perform on Saturday and as one of their members said, that is usually a hindrance due to their performance being 'forgotten' by the time the voting lines open.

But if eliminations are done on sing-offs alone then it's hard to disagree with the decision of judges Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh. Waissel easily outperformed FYD thanks to a great rendition of the Beatles classic Don't Let Me Down, with FYD's mentor Simon Cowell also impressed.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Blackpool lad Aiden Grimshaw is the new favourite to win this year's X Factor after wowing the judges during Saturday night's first live show. Grimshaw - who at [5.4] to back has ousted Matt Cardle ([5.8]) at the head of the Winner market - produced a spectacular rendition of the Tears for Fears hit Mad World that had Cowell admitting, "That was my favourite performance of the night".

Other acts to impress on the first night of live performances included Cole's wildcard pick Treyc Cohen ([20.0]), 50-year-old Dubliner Mary Byrne ([11.0]), and manufactured boy band One Direction ([6.2]).

Let us know what you think. Did Nicolo Festa and FYD deserve to go? Is Aiden a worthy favourite? And who do you think will win this year's show?

Aiden has the advantage of being younger and perhaps better looking than Matt, but I don't believe he's got the same vocal strength.

I believe that Matt will do better as time goes on. He seemed to do very well in the group dance routine--there was no evidence of hesitation or lack of self-assurance in hi body language. And no hat, either.
