Sami Brookes - the sixth act to be eliminated from this year’s X Factor

"Despite being matched at a high of [6.2] Brookes was the favourite all week in the Sixth Elimination market, generally available to back at around the [4.0] mark."

She was given a lifeline when Goldie Cheung withdrew from the competition, but tonight Sami Brookes' second chance has ended...

Sami Brookes was tonight eliminated from The X Factor after losing out in a sing-off to fellow Over 25s competitor Kitty Brucknell.

Brookes performed a decent rendition of the Cher classic If I Could Turn Back Time on Saturday night, but although judges Louis Walsh, Tulisa Contostavlos and Kelly Rowland gave positive feedback, new head judge Gary Barlow was far from impressed, labelling Brookes' performance as boring.

But it has to be said that Kitty performed a near faultless performance of the Lady Gaga hit 'Edge Of Glory' during the sing-off and thoroughly deserved to stay, a view shared by judges Barlow, Rowland, and Walsh.

Despite being matched at a high of [6.2] Brookes was the favourite all week in the Sixth Elimination market, generally available to back at around the [4.0] mark. However, she was pushed out to second favourite following Frankie Cocozza's self-indulgent rendition of Primal Scream's 'Get Your Rocks Off' - the Brighton lad being matched at a low of [2.06] to be eliminated.

But in a surprising turn of events, Cocozza was saved by the public and Brookes was always the one likely to lose out from that moment on.

The Risk - available to back at [3.4] in the Winner market - continue to via for favouritism with Janet Devlin ([3.5]) after both gave adequate, if not spectacular, performances on Saturday night, but it was Misha Bryan (again), and Johnny Robinson who arguably stole the show. I'll discuss these two in more detail during tomorrow's full review as well as discussing bully-gate (Misha B) and petty-gate (the judges).

And I might just do a Frankie - ie, self-indulge - about my incredible tipping powers on betting.betfair. Sleep tight.
