Time to go?
"It's time now to decide if you are with or against Widdecombe."
Alan Dudman selects the best bets for what is set to be a busy weekend for Strictly Come Dancing's remaining contestants...
For those who enjoy the midweek 'It Takes Two', I have been watching choreography corner with Karen Hardy very closely over the last few days. I have discovered the art of the American Smooth, and also discovered I have a major crush on Hardy. It's a pity my surname isn't Laurel.
However, I don't like Len Goodman anymore - what an earth was going on last week? He gave Kara and Artem a miserly '6'! Was it a Foxtrot or wasn't it? Well who cares, the dance was spectacular, Craig Revel Horwood described it as a spanking routine. It was dramatic, romantic, and sizzled with new moves and chemistry, and yet Goodman gave
it one more point than Ann Widdecombe's dance. It was the low point of Blackpool, the dance however was the high point, and once again showed she could be the best.
I have potentially spotted the best ever odds-on shot this week, with one spoiler. Once again it centres around Kara Tointon, and the fact she is [1.79] in the top female prices. Let us consider the opposition: Ann [3.35], Pamela [7.00] and Patsy [30.00].
And once again, 'the tank' is the problem. Ann Widdecombe. The former MP is still hanging in there with the thoroughly annoying Anton du Beke. There is absolutely no way she should be [11.00] to win it, [3.35] as top female, and a staggering [2.90] in the top three. Kara has the beating of Patsy and Pam easily, and on dancing wipes the floor with Ann, she should in truth be about [1.40].
It's time now to decide if you are with or against Widdecombe. If you are against, there is a huge chance to hoover up laying all those short prices. If you are with, you would have been heartened to read a certain tabloid suggesting that both Widdecombe and the X-Faxtor's Wagner have been polling substantial phone votes for both programmes.
Craig dubbed Widdecombe the 'dancing hippo' last week, whilst Len called her 'haemorrhoids'. The hippos responded by complaining via a series of emails.
On to this week's dances. Scott Maslen has drifted out to [4.50] as the winner, and has reportedly been struggling with the intense workload. His partner Natalie appeared on ITT this week alone, as Scott was sleeping. Apparently he has got some full-on storylines in Eastenders and is struggling to juggle both but I haven't watched since Arthur Fowler nicked the christmas club money. Scott has the American Smooth, which will suit after his mixed bag of results from a poor samba. Scott's [3.05] price for top scorer this week
is about right, as he is better at Ballroom rather than Latin. His partner is also very good at this dance, and nailed it with Ricky Whittle last year, although expect fewer lifts (which Len hates).
Pamela appeared on ITV's Daybreak this week to discuss her Strictly experience. I surprisingly failed to get out of bed to watch this. Her dance is the Charleston, which is fun, fun, fun. She is [8.00] for the highest score, but won't get top numbers. Her Jive in week five wasn't great, which is typically high energy and tough. The judges have also been miserly with their Charleston marks so far this series. Kara got a 32, which makes it tough for Pam.
Matt has sorted out his thumbs to the delight of judge Craig, and his training looks good thus far, he is [2.70] top score. Kara is a leave alone this week, as she has the Jive. But worryingly her partner Artem is still struggling with his neck injury. Tointon said the dance is
the one she is least looking forward to.
The two facing the axe are Gavin and Patsy. Henson is getting better and will tackle the Jive. His elimination price makes appeal at [4.04] as he is still making mistakes and won't be in hold this week. Patsy is favourite to go at [2.02] but is a better dancer than the rugby player. She was in the bottom two last week, but might be ok with her Argentine Tango.
Recommended bets:
Back Matt Baker top score [2.07]
Back Gavin Henson for elimination [4.04]
