The rumba could cause problems for long legged Williams
"Peter has got the quickstep this Saturday, and a points score of around 14-16 is all he can hope for. His salsa last weeked was awful - more hip replacement than hip-swinging.
Former England man was a rock between the sticks but he has similar qualities on the dancefloor - no wonder he's favourite to bid au revoir this weekend
Last Sunday's elimination of Goldie - a winning tip for this column - whittled the dancers down to 13, but more importantly it highlighted the power of the viewers and the phone votes. Goldie was nowhere near the worst, but he isn't current and his appeal to primetime TV on BBC1 is minimal - or was.
Goldie showed some sour grapes following his departure by criticising the format, suggesting it could be more pantomime rather than the dancing. He is dead right, but them's the rules. That's why I am still thinking Michelle Williams is a runner in the second elimination market at a big price.
Matt Baker has shortened once more and is now [3.05] fav. His dances have yielded two scores of 31. I am really liking Kara Tointon [6.0] - thoroughly likeable and genuine with a great feel for the steps. Whilst Pamela Stephenson is rocking, and the doctor is the biggest mover in the market with a price of [11.0] to win it. She has been matched at [95.0] for £12!
Big news for this weekend's two shows. Saturday's dancing is at 18:00, whilst the results come on Sunday at 19:00. Right, on to the big news. Peter Andre (yes Peter Andre) will perform live his new single 'Defender'. Wow, I can hardly wait. It's a pity he isn't signing 'Goalkeeper' which could be dedicated to Peter Shilton. I wonder if 'Defender' was written about my boyhood hero Ray Stewart (penalty king at Upton Park)?
Ex-Corrie star Tina O'Brien has been ruled of the dances this week due to a bout of chicken pox. And rather sad news to report on Ann Widdecombe, who has vowed to perform despite the death of her brother this week.
With the Week 2 elimination markets available, it's clear that Peter Shilton [2.72] and Paul Daniels [3.25] are in big trouble.
I really feel for Shilts, which is totally the opposite of how I felt about him after stumbling backwards into the net during Italia 90, following Andreas Brehme's deflected free-kick. Shilts described SCD as the worst experience in his life (and he played in
some terrible England sides), and he isn't up to this. Which is sad to see.
Peter has got the quickstep this Saturday, and a points score of around 14-16 is all he can hope for. His salsa last weeked was awful - more hip replacement than hip-swinging. He survived the phone vote, but he has no Goldie in opposition this Sunday.
Paul Daniels fared slightly better and improved on the first dance, but he has the rumba coming up. He should find himself once again in the bottom three but might survive the vote by the skin of his teeth.
I would certainly throw a couple of quid at Williams to get the boot. The judges have been negative with their comments so far, and Brendan had something to say about that this week on 'It Takes Two'. She has the rumba this Saturday and her long legs could get in all sorts of trouble. If she finds herself in the vote, she is worth taking a chance
on at [11.5].
Scott was a massive improver with his salsa on last week's show. He got a total 32, and clearly is a good mover. In the highest scorer market this week, there are some good angles. Kara [3.0] has the quickstep, and she has good chemistry with her
partner Artem (muscles and tattoos). He also has delivered the best choreography thus far. Jimi can be backed at [7.0] for top scorer, and there might be a run with him as his hips are good which should suit the dance. Scott [5.0], Pam [3.5] and Matt [3.5] will all score heavily.
And remember Gavin Henson is just a set of abs. As am I, although slighty less defined.
Week 2 recommendations:
Back Peter Shilton in Week 2 Elimination @ [2.72]
Back Michelle Williams in Week 2 Elimination @ [11.5]
Back Kara in highest score market @ [3.00]
Back Jimi highest score market @ [7.00]
Back-to-lay Pamela in winner market @ [11.00]
