He won't be smiling come Sunday night
" At 6"5 and 18 stone, Audley will be as nimble as a snooker table. "
Alan Dudman's betting brain is looking loose, limber and lithe for another series of Strictly Come Dancing and he forecasts more public embarrassment for Audley Harrison
It's sequins and spandex time ladies and gentlemen, as the ninth series of BBC1's flagship show Strictly Come Dancing kicks-off properly this Friday, plus a Saturday shindig, and the results programme on the Sunday. Enough time surely for part-human/part-robot Tess Daly to recharge for each evening of the weekend extravaganza?
The 14 contestants will be split over the weekend, with seven dancing on Friday and the other seven the day after. Each pairing have either the Waltz or the Cha Cha Cha and, if you are looking for an exit bet for the first round, target the men tackling the latter. The women with the Waltz will get an easier ride - all will be explained later.
The current favourite is Harry Judd (no, me neither), and he trades at [3.7]. Apparently he is the drummer for McFly (no, me neither), and he has danced in the Strictly In Need fundraiser with Ola in a previous life - and much of the price looks based on that. For me he is too short at the moment, we need to see him a couple of times before making a decision. Although there have been a few shocking ante-post favourites in the past (Joe Calzaghe series seven), there is no fun in that price.
Punting on Strictly can throw up some fantastic trades, and a green book can be achievable within the first month. The best markets for those are Top Male and Top Female, whilst a lovely juicy price in the Winner market can give a good run for the money - as shown by Pamela Stephenson last year - she made it to the final three and was available pre-dancing at [75.0].
On to the business of the First Elimination, with Audley Harrison in trouble (a phrase familiar to the A-force). He is fav for the chop at [3.05], and needs to get through three minutes in front of the cameras and perform well, a task he has had trouble with numerous times in his boxing career.
Fraudley has become a bit of laughing stock, and his price of [130.0] to win it would still be shorter than his odds to win a heavyweight title. At 6"5 and 18 stone, he will be as nimble as a snooker table. There has been no training footage available this week, which may be a good thing. Public image and the power of the vote is also key, and I'm not sure the pugilist has got any fans left.
Impressionist Rory Bremner looks hopeless in training, he has the waltz this Saturday. I am looking forward to his Tony Blair impression though - haven't seen that for ages. He trades at [60.0] to win, but is [15.5] for elimination.
On the low scores look no further than Edwina Currie - who is a rank outsider at [110.0]. She is this year's political funster, and might do a Sargeant or Widdecombe. My research means I have to pore over hours of footage every week
studying their moves, none have been more disturbing than Currie's Cha Cha Cha. The sexy hip swivelling on a pensioner looks plain wrong, plus she is partnered with that annoying little twerp Vincent. She'll be a well below-par score of 15 or lower - but the voters will save her.
The three long price trades are Anita Dobson [21.0], Lulu [17.5] and Nancy [75.0].
Dobson has aged terribly in the last 40 years since Eastenders, but she looks reasonably graceful dancing, Lulu looked a sex-bomb in Take That's 'Could It Be Magic' - mind you she was dancing next to Gary Barlow - while Nancy provides the glamour, and her reported dislike of Edwina could throw up some tantrums and fun.
I need to get back to study Holly Valance now in the 'Kiss Kiss' pop video of 2002 just to see once again how good she can dance.
Recommended Bets:
Back Audley Harrison in First Elimination market @ [3.05]
Back-to-lay Lulu [17.50], Anita [21.00] and Nancy [75.00] in winner market
Back Female @ [2.5] in the Male/Female market
Back Holly @ [5.5] to win
