Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Can David James save his bacon once again?

Can David James avoid elimination at the weekend?

Dev Griffin's exit showed anything is possible on Strictly but it's no surprise to see David James favourite for fourth elimination, says Max Liu

"The market is still taking shape, as bettors tend to get involved closer to the weekend, but James is already the favourite to go."

Last week's Strictly delivered the biggest shock of the series so far as Dev Griffin was eliminated and David James put in a much improved performance to defy punters who'd backed him in to odds-on for the chop.

Contestants and viewers were left stunned as Griffin, who had been thought of as one of the leading contenders for this year's glitter ball, was dumped out after just four weeks of the show.

That meant Emma Weymouth, Griffin's rival in Sunday's dance-off stayed on. Many viewers disagreed with the judgement, as the poll below shows:

James favourite for elimination in spite of big improvement

Going into last weekend, ex-England goalkeeper James was the clear favourite to be eliminated. In an extraordinary upturn, however, James scored 28 for his quickstep with partner Nadiya Bychkova.

It was the second week in a row that James had begun the weekend as favourite to leave but emerged from it still in the show. As we head towards week five, and the fourth elimination, it's time to wonder if the man once nicknamed 'Calamity' can cling on again.

Bettors don't think so. The market is still taking shape, as bettors tend to get involved closer to the weekend, but James is already the favourite to go.

Kelvin still favourite even though Karim won week four

Karim Zeroual and partner Amy Dowden came top of the leaderboard in week four ahead of series favourite Kelvin Fletcher and partner Oti Mabuse.

Karim and Amy performed a tango and won to two tens from the judges, while Kelvin (pictured above) and Oti closely followed with 36 for their rumba.

Kelvin has been favourite since week one to go all the way this year and bettors are still backing him at 10/111.89, with Karim trading at 9/25.4 on the Exchange.
