Our traders have suspended betting on Prince William to be the next British Monarch after a series of maximum bets...

"Yesterday morning it was 16/1 for the Queen to renounce her title in 2015, but after some unusual bets we've had to cut the price to 10/1. It begs the question, just what is going on over at Clarence House?"

Over the past six months, all the money the Sportsbook has seen has been for Prince Charles at odds as low as 1/5. But the past 24 hours have signalled a significant swing in the betting with Prince William heavily backed into 6/4 from 3/1, with a number of maximum bets.

Cormac Dowling, Novelties and Politics Trader for Betfair, said: "When a relatively quiet market like this one suddenly sees an explosion in activity and given that punters were still backing William at such short odds, we have suspended betting until we know more.

Prince Charles hit the headlines earlier this month when letters he had sent to government ministers were released to the public, despite efforts by the government and officials at Buckingham Palace for them not to be seen.
