Next Bond Betting: A female 007? A plunge on Pike makes it a possibility
Our traders have slashed the odds on Rosamund Pike being named the next James Bond after a series of bets on the Brit actress...
"The market for who will replace Daniel Craig as James Bond has been action packed, with the latest betting backing up rumours that a woman could that take the lead role."
The Gone Girl actress is now just 9/1, from 33s, to be the next James Bond after heavy backing.
The topic of who will replace Daniel Craig in the role has been much talked about in recent weeks with even former Labour leader Ed Miliband throwing in his two pence worth, suggesting Pike 'would make a great Bond'.
Craig himself told Time Out London that he'd rather "break this glass and slash my wrists," than play Bond again. "I'm over it at the moment. We're done. All I want to do is move on."
Novelties and Politics Trader for Betfair, Colm Rock, said: "Rosamund Pike had been friendless in the Next James Bond market at 33/1 but it seems she has the support of more than just Ed Miliband and has been backed into 9/1 by punters.
"With the Spectre trailer now out in the ether, speculation has stepped up a gear. The market for who will replace Daniel Craig as James Bond has been action packed, with the latest betting backing up rumours that a woman could that take the lead role.
"We've also seen a rise in support for Tom Hardy in recent days. The Legend actor, who is in cinemas at the moment playing the role of Ronald Kray, has been backed from 11/4 to 5/2 second favourite, tightening up the gap further between himself and current favourite Damian Lewis, who is at 2/1."
