Heidi Ranger is destined for elimination this week
"Andy Whyment would also really struggle in the solo skating element so I’d have him to fill the other elimination spot in a double with Heidi Range at around [6.6]."
Sugababes star Heidi Range stumbled last week but this week she could be falling out of the competition says Simon Hopper. And don't rule out Andy Whyment joining her in this week's double elimination.
I advised Rosemary Conley to be eliminated last weekend (third time lucky) and now I fancy Heidi Range to follow her out of the Dancing On Ice door in this week's double elimination.
The sultry Sugababes star has been falling down the leaderboard every week since the opening night and things came to a head last time out, when she finished bottom with a paltry score of 14.0. Admittedly she stumbled mid-routine which ruined her chances of getting high marks, but the judges were pretty disappointed with her lack of progress and there's no doubt she's now bottom of the DOI pecking order.
The other negative against Heidi is that she was in the bottom two on the opening night, which suggests that her support base isn't massive. An elimination price of [3.0] or higher should be taken.
Fellow strugglers Sam Nixon and Andy Whyment are the other leading contenders to get the boot on Sunday. However, both produced good performances last time out. Sam managed a superb score of 19.5 - the fifth best of the night - and it was the fourth consecutive week that he's improved his marks. Andy, meanwhile, is being given 'comedy' routines by Torvill and Dean every week and it's clearly working; he's scored a respectable 17.5 two weeks in a row and hasn't been in a skate-off to date.
Of the two, I'd say Andy has less scope for improvement and there's only so far being amusing can get you in this competition. He'd also really struggle in the solo skating element so I'd have him to fill the other elimination spot in a double with Heidi at around [6.6] when the market gains liquidity.
Looking further down the market, a price of around [8.0] on Chemmy Alcott to go could be interesting. She was in the bottom two last weekend and clearly has no connection with the audience - the main reason for this is that she is a professional skier, so hardly anyone in this country would have heard of her before the show started. However, we must be aware of the powerful 'bounce-back' factor on the show and for that reason I'll leave her alone - for now.
