Liam McNally is the class act in tonight’s last semi final and should sail through to tomorrow’s live final
"McNally clearly loves singing, and though it would be completely understandable if he were to suffer from a few nerves tonight, I think his passion, enthusiasm and believable performance will be enough to win the public vote."
Eight acts have made it through to Saturday's Britain's Got Talent final and tonight will see two more acts join them, most likely to be a few young boys says Michael Norman.
I mentioned yesterday how it would take an extraordinary performance from someone to win last night's public vote ahead of Twist and Pulse. Well that performance - according to some better judges than me - came from 81-year-old singer Janey Cutler, who is now available to back at [9.0] to win Saturday's live final.
I like Janey, I like her a lot, but I just don't think she is good enough to win a competition of this magnitude. She sang well last night, and I'll reiterate what I've said previously, for her age, she is outstanding. But is she as good as judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan make her out to be? I have my doubts, but perhaps my opinion is slightly derived from the financial loss I suffered backing Twist and Pulse. I was on at [2.1] prior to the show, and then topped up at [1.7] after their spectacular performance. You know, it really is difficult typing with such burnt fingers.
Still, Twist and Pulse did make it to the final - for which they can be backed at [25.0] - and I'm definitely of the opinion that they are the best act so far that required the help of the judges in order to progress.
Tonight's final heat will decide who joins the above two acts in the final along with Spellbound ([2.24]), Paul Burling ([8.2]), Tina and Chandi ([9.0]), Connected ([28.0]), Tobias Mead ([40.0]) and Christopher Stone ([40.0]). The smart money will unquestionably be on Liam McNally, the 14-year-old schoolboy who sings very much in the same style as series two participant Andrew Johnston.
McNally impressed enormously in his audition when he performed a choirboy version of Oh Danny Boy, with even the hard-to-please Cowell admitting that the teenager was a fantastic singer. McNally clearly loves singing, and though it would be completely understandable if he were to suffer from a few nerves tonight, I think his passion, enthusiasm and believable performance will be enough to win the public vote. He will be available to back at around [1.8] to do exactly that once the market materialises, whilst he is just [1.12] in the To Reach The Final market.
Who joins McNally is far more difficult to call, with comeback drummer boy Kieran Gaffney ([2.26]) perhaps being the most likely to progress. Watch out though for dance troupe Myztical ([3.1]) who will do ok as long as the right people sing (they're a dance troupe with a twist), and the Chippendoubles who were very entertaining in the audition but have lost that surprise element about them now.
I'll be back tomorrow morning with an in-depth preview of Saturday's live final
