Heineken Cup Betting: Back Munster to shock Sarries as Glasgow and Sale struggle

Owen Farrell's missed kicks cost Saracens dear last weekend

There are three games in the Heineken Cup this Sunday between sides who had close contests last weekend. Richard O'Hagan selects the best bets.

"Owen Farrell might have been nominated as one of the players of 2012, but his kicking cost Saracens victory over Munster on Saturday"

Castres Olympique v Glasgow Warriors
Pool 4
1245hrs BST
Sky Sports 2

This is a must-win game for Castres against the bottom side in Pool 4. At the halfway stage of the group matches they already trail leaders Ulster by six points and with only two second place sides going through to the quarterfinals they are still two points off the pace there, too. Glasgow have had a horrible campaign and have just the one solitary bonus point to show for their troubles. That it came in last week's 6-9 kicking fest against Castres will be scant consolation and it would be a major shock if the Frenchmen did not win this handsomely. The market reflects that, so instead look at the first scoring play and after last weekend go for a Glasgow penalty as being the most likely option.

Saracens v Munster
Pool 1
1400hrs BST
Sky Sports 2

Owen Farrell might have been nominated as one of the players of 2012, but his kicking cost Saracens victory over Munster on Saturday. It is a long time since he missed four shots at goal in any game and in a match where defences ruled the roost those misses allowed Munster back into the race to top Pool 1. The good news is that the weather on Sunday is forecast to be dry and comparatively warm, which should suit the home side. However, the pitch is likely to be heavy and that will favour Munster more, so back them at 2.8615/8 to win.

Toulon v Sale
Pool 6
1500hrs BST
Sky Sports 2 (red button)

An emotional day for Sale as they return to the field for the first time following the death of former player David Tait on Thursday. Realistically their only way into the quarterfinals is to win each of their last three games and take a bonus point along the way. They've not taken a bonus point yet and never looked like scoring a try (let alone four) in Saturday's home loss to Toulon. In the backyard of one of the best teams in France it looks a forlorn hope and Jonny Wilkinson & Co look like easy victors. There's no value in backing the home side to win, so instead look at the margin of victory market and go for them to do so by more than 12.5 points.
