Heineken Cup Betting: Ospreys to hunt down Tigers and other Sunday games

Back the Ospreys to take down the Tigers

The second Sunday of the Heineken Cup and four crucial matches top be played. Richard O'Hagan previews all of the action...

"The Tigers will have to play with a whole lot more adventure and nous than they did in France, where they even managed to make a mess of their opponents having a man in the sin bin. They are always a tough prospect at Welford Road, but it isn't the fortress that it once was and the Ospreys will fancy their chances of a surprise win here"

Cardiff Blues v Toulon
Pool 6
1245hrs BST
Sky Sports

With only two second placed teams going through from the six groups to the quarter finals, the unwritten rule of this year's Heineken Cup is that you win your home games and try to take as many bonus points as you can from your away ones. Cardiff came so close to bettering that, coming within a point of beating Sale away last weekend. Now they face a far more difficult task, a home tie against the glamour boys of European rugby, Toulon. Jonny Wilkinson & Co had a surprisingly easy home win over Montpellier last week and will expect to come away with at least a point from this tie. The big difference between the two sides, though, is that whilst Cardiff have plenty of stars of their own, the French side seem to have integrated their big guns much more completely. Expect Toulon win by more than 12.5 points, at odds of around [2.5]

Munster v Edinburgh
Pool 1
1245hrs BST
Sky Sports

A massive game in store at Thomond Park. Both of these sides suffered bad defeats last weekend, with Edinburgh turning in the worst performance of the round in losing 45-0 at home to Saracens. Munster at least took a bonus point from their 22-17 loss away at Racing Metro but will be disappointed not to have picked up all four. They top the Pro12, whilst Edinburgh languish in 9th place and may be without both Greg Laidlaw and Tim Visser. Expect this to be another bad weekend for the Scots, but also expect them to put up more of a fight. Munster winning by under 12.5, at odds of [2.04], is your bet.

Leicester Tigers v Ospreys
Pool 2
1500hrs BST
Sky Sports

Leicester's European hopes took a battering on Sunday after they were completely outclassed by Toulouse. The Ospreys, on the other hand, picked up a bonus point in beating Treviso and now top the group. The Tigers will have to play with a whole lot more adventure and nous than they did in France, where they even managed to make a mess of their opponents having a man in the sin bin. They are always a tough prospect at Welford Road, but it isn't the fortress that it once was and the Ospreys will fancy their chances of a surprise win here. Back them at odds of [4.0]

Montpellier v Sale Sharks
Pool 6
1500hrs BST
Sky Sports

However confident Sale are after recording a much needed - if scrappy and arguably fortunate - win over Cardiff, they know they are going to need to raise their game even more if they are to take anything from this match. Montpellier, despite their loss to Toulon in the final game of the opening round, are a fast-improving side and very hard to beat on their home patch. The Sharks need Danny Cipriani to be at his inspired best if they are to take anything from this game, but at [7.2] the win they are definitely worth a punt.
