Last week was good, wasn't it? Not only did we nail three from three, but the rugby being played this season is just getting better and better. Super League has really improved this season, with the competitive nature of the sport at full effect, the league has been tighter than ever, with games becoming less straightforward to call. Away sides are struggling this year, with only a handful of home defeats, which is a great testament to the crowds that are packing out grounds. There's another tough set of fixtures this round, but we're on a winning run so here are the suggestions for this week.
1 - Salford Red Devils to beat Widnes Vikings by a margin of 11-20pts @ 3.39/4
Thursday March 26, 20:00
Having been the main source of drama in the league for the first few weeks, Salford have finally started to settle down and play some rugby. Their attacking game has never been in question, it's their tendency to leak easy points in defence that's their main problem, and has been for quite some time. Widnes, on the other hand, started the season really well, but have started to hit a few bumps in the road when playing away from home so far, as many sides have. Combining those two sets of logic points to a convincing Salford win, but Widnes have more than enough to put a few points on the board themselves. Look out for a relatively high scoreline, a Salford win, and two or three tries extra in the bag for the home side.
2 - Hull Kingston Rovers to beat St Helens by a margin of 1-10pts @ 4.216/5
Friday March 27, 20:00
I've backed Saints to lose a few times already this year, and I've been wrong every single time. I'm well aware of that Einstein quote about insanity, too, but I can't shake the feeling that although they're unbeaten, that won't last much longer with the league the way it has been this season. The larger trends are pointing to tighter games, big home field advantages and a fair few upsets, and that's before you've even taken in to account just how good Hull KR have been to watch this season.
They've recruited amazingly well, almost piecing together an entirely new side in pre-season, and they've all hit the ground running
. This game might not be pretty to watch, most games including Saints so far this year haven't been, but don't count out the home side on their own patch, if this season has taught us anything so far, it's to expect the unexpected.
3 - Castleford Tigers, Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves to all win @ 1.9110/11
Friday March 27, 20:00
Backing these sides at home as singles won't give you much value, but select them as an accumulator and play the treble and you're putting your money in a much more lucrative looking pot. Castleford are stuttering through matches this year, and Hull FC have been a tough nut to crack, but with their backs starting to gel and the home advantage that has been so telling this season on their side, Castleford should be settling this one in their favour. Wigan too, much like Castleford, haven't started this season in the fashion they'd have hoped to. Much closer to the bottom of the league than the top, Wakefield might just be the perfect side to test themselves against this week, and try to fight their way back up the ladder. While the Wildcats have impressed much more than anyone had expected them to, Wigan still have some unbelievable talent in their ranks, and that should show against the side most tipped to finish bottom this season. Warrington will be quietly happy with how they've started the year, only slightly behind the top two, they're finding their partnerships within their team and allowing their flair players to impact games like we've become used to. Huddersfield have put a poor start behind them in a convincing manner, and they won't make life at all easy for the Wolves, but given the home sides extra bit of class and attacking talent, there's only one winner here.
