Re-buys, a way back in or a waste of money?
HYPE has a question for the group: "Only played a couple of these, last night built a healthy stack without rebuying before falling to a monster bad beat. Got offered the chance to buy 1500 more chips but thought to myself - why bother? What's the point in entering a tournie where everyone has on average 3x as many chips as you have?"
A rebuy: When you run out of chips, or even if you just run low, you can choose to buy more chips. After a set period for rebuys, the tournament becomes a "freezeout" in which players are knocked out when they lose their chips.
Stu offers: "But there will be less opponents at that point?"
Blufdaddy opines: "The good points are that they attract weaker players who wouldn't normally pay $100-$200 to enter a F/O MTT but they often end up spending that amount in rebuys, plumping up the prize pool for the long term winning players."
If you play aggressively, rebuys can be useful. Many players get carried away going for the big stack and no longer paying heed to odds. It's your call...
