Those of you who are regular readers of my blog will remember that I had a nice score last year when I won a WCOOP event despite it being in Pot Limit Omaha (PLO)and many of you asked if I had plans on taking up PLO cash games at any point.
I've mainly been playing cash games on Betfair with a $500 and $1,000 buy-in, which probably isn't the best idea seeing how it is certainly not my strongest game, but I feel I have picked it up really quickly
At the time I said no but over the past couple of weeks I have got my grind on at the PLO tables and although I have lost rather heavily I am happy with how I have played and had the cards gone my way I could have had an amazing month.
I've mainly been playing cash games on Betfair with a $500 and $1,000 buy-in, which probably isn't the best idea seeing how it is certainly not my strongest game, but I feel I have picked it up really quickly. I've watched a couple of videos and discussed hands with some PLO playing friends and I honestly believe that I will become infinitely better than the regs in time.
Every day I wake up feeling exciting and refreshed because this is something completely new to me, it's such good fun! There are so many different things you can do in PLO and you get so deep really quickly because you're all-in all the time but money wise it has not been as I would have hoped. During March I played a total of 45,027 hands of PLO and lost the kingly sum of $14,302.25! However, I feel I played really well and according to my database had the cards gone the way they should then I would have won $28,647.50 so I am obviously doing something right and with a bit of luck it will turn around in April.
Away from poker I have been making a few life changes after reading a great book about happiness. The author, whose name eludes me right now, talks about how society has shaped us to want and feel we need materialistic things but when we get these they don't actually make us happy because we want and feel we need more. The way I see it is the law student who is striving to become a lawyer. He passes his exams and is happy but then he has to go back to working ridiculously long hours for years on end before he eventually makes it as a partner. Again, here he is happy he has made partner but then what does he do? He just works ridiculously long hours and earns more money.
In order to be truly happy you have to thrown yourself into fulfilling tasks that really stimulate you. For a long time now I have been wanting to learn a new language but for one reason or another I have been putting it off but I recently bought the Spanish language pack for the Rosetta Stone and I have been learning a bit each night. Even though I have been losing at PLO I have felt good every day because I am doing something I have always wanted to do. It also helps that I went to a restaurant where there was an absolutely stunning Columbian girl there who was impressed that I was making the effort to learn something new!
As part of my recent health kick I have finally taken delivery of my juicer, it's a really good juicer. Yesterday I made myself some Beechwood Kale, celery and apple, which sounds disgusting but was actually really nice so I'll be experimenting with more juicing soon. I've also subscribed to mail order water. Yes, H2O! Now I don't even have to leave the house to go an pick some up! It's really good water too, it completely crushes Evian, so I'm in a good place right now.
My plans for April are to play even more PLO, create more juices and rehydrate myself with my Evian-crushing mail order water! Don't forget to tune into my radio show too each Wednesday either!
