It is very difficult to log serious volume when you have a full time job, kids and a Mrs to keep happy
I've been super busy over the past few days with the World Series of Poker drawing to a close but I've still managed to find time to play some poker, and HUSNG once again in particular.
I honestly don't know why I always chop and change as I have a very good record in HUSNG's but I think sometimes they can get to be a little too much and then they start to get on my nerves. Their main problem is actually part of why they are great and that is it is one-on-one and you are involved in every hand.
During a cash game you might get table dynamics but unless you're playing the same guys week in week out then you never really get to start with any sort of metagame tactics nor do you ever manage to get into their heads at all. Playing 20 hands at 6max wont give you any sort of read etc as you will actually only be involved in five of them but heads-up you will have been active in all 20. If you've played them you'll know what I mean.
Anyway, because of this they can become mentally tiring, especially if you are trying to log some decent volume and even more so if you are not exactly running great. Both of those comments apply to me right now.
Volume has never been a strong point of mine but I am working on changing that. It is very difficult to log serious volume when you have a full time job, kids and a Mrs to keep happy so what I am doing is playing in the evening once the kids are in bed and Mrs P is watching her daily soaps. Doing this should allow me to play around 10 HUSNG per day which over the course of a month is 250-300 which is fine by me.
Since Sunday I have only managed to play 22 of them, but that is because I chose to play on the Xbox last night after running like death on Monday. Sunday's session was great. Even though I was a little rusty I managed to go 4/1 for a nice little profit but then Monday was simply awful.
I lost my first game which I never like doing after some fish called my raise with 85o and flopped two pair against my TPTK but I went on to win four from my next six games. However, the mini downswing then kicked in and I lost my next four on the trot including losing AhJh against AdJd all-in preflop! So Monday's session I was 4/7 with a -30.7% ROI but after adjusting the all-in EV I should only have had a -1.7% ROI, big difference.
I still played last night but only fit in five games, going 3/2 and I have just won one whilst I was eating my bacon and egg sarny! Yum, yum! So after 22 games I have an ITM of 54.5% and an ROI of a measly 3.9% but I hope to at least double that by the weekend and hopefully have played around 100 by then too.
My God, Pud writes something poker related, shock horror! As always, thanks for reading and best of luck at the tables!
