The past couple of days have been really exciting for me mainly because the World Series of Poker Main Event was in full swing and some of the big names were still in. Reading and writing about the Main Event has given me a new lease of life poker wise and I really have to sample Vegas in the very near future.

One player who must be still grinning from ear to ear is Poker Hit Squad member, James Akenhead. Mr Akenhead came within one hand of winning a bracelet at last year's World Series but was involved in an extremely sick hand with Blair Hinkle where they were all-in preflop, Akenhead with AK and Hinkle with T4. The flop came down TT4 and then the turn gave Hinkle quads and the bracelet.

I was devastated for him because he completely outplayed his opponent and from what I have read about him, he does this to everyone he faces at the felt, both online and live. Well the Poker Gods (amen) must believe in Karma as James is now part of the 2009 November Nine, guaranteed over $1,200,000 and has a real chance of winning the whole thing. The Hit Squad blog will be a flurry of activity in the coming months, I suggest you check it out.

Another player who managed to cash in the Main Event, and one who I have mentioned before is Chuck Clark, better known as ex-Snowman. His blog is always a very entertaining read but I particularly enjoyed his blogging about the Main Event in which he managed to make it all the way through to Day 6 to finish in 115th from 6,494 runners for $40,288. He was even sat with Phil Ivey at one stage and rather than avoiding him, he took him on heads-on with a wide range of hands. A great read and a brilliant performance.

Another player who has graced these pages in previous times is the man who calls himself Foxwoods Fiend. For those who don't know him, he is a high-stakes cash game pro who is also an instructor for Deuces Cracked. I've watched a few of his videos and everything he does is so planned, thought out and natural. He just never seems to get flustered at all. He also played in the Main Event and documented some interesting hands he was involved in. Read his thoughts whilst you can as there are rumours that he is quitting poker in the very near future.

Last but certainly not least is the blog of Cory Albertson which is entitled "It's Orange Not Red." Whilst his blog in primarily a poker related one, his recent entry discusses a couple of interesting business models and makes you realise the little scams, for want of a better word, businesses pull in order to make you think you're getting value and a bargain. I guess you could even translate it to poker sites and plays you make if you tried hard enough.

Well that is it for another week. Time for a can of King 888 to wake me up then a little dance to try get the rain to disappear as it is coming down in buckets here.

As always, thanks for reading and best of look at the tables!
