Lots of study, not much play

Mrs P has kept me busy these past couple of days after demanding that I finish painting the bedroom by the weekend. Thankfully all that is left to do is a coat on the woodwork and then the ceiling then I am done.

My confidence in my game is sky-high right now, all I need to do is start to log some volume. I know I keep saying it but it's difficult to juggle normal life with my poker playing life sometimes, even more so now I am spending around an hour a night watching videos and taking notes.

I hate decorating, in fact I really hate decorating. The painting part I don't mind it's actually quite therapeutic but all the washing down with sugar soap, filling holes with polyfilla and sanding down makes me want to top myself after about half an hour. Needless to say I am not looking forward to decorating an entire house when we finally move away from Dewsbury, though that will be a few months yet I suspect.

Apart from painting I've been assembling the new bed and bruising my palm and spraining the wrist I've broken twice by screwing in all the bloody screws. The bed looks nice and it sure beats sleeping on the mattress on the floor like some junkie in a squat!

Pokerwise I have spent most of my spare time watching videos by RyPac13 of HUSNG.com fame. So far I have watched six of the 11 videos by Ryan and I've taken an awful lot in and started to make some adjustments to my own game to see how they fit in.

The main differences I found were not altering my preflop bet sizes when the blinds go up, instead I have been raising three times the big blind regardless. I had also been betting two much on the turn as a second barrel but have since started to bet a little less as villains who will fold to 300 in a 450 pot will also often fold to a 260 bet and those extra 40 chips can be crucial when you're actually called.

I've also taken note of some of Ryan's general advice, mainly not to try to win every pot and to stop searching statistics sites for player's stats as almost everyone playing the $50's and below are poor in their own way and even the winning players are not exactly world-class. By not searching the players I sit with, I should be able to fit in an extra 1-2 games per session which is all good.

My confidence in my game is sky-high right now, all I need to do is start to log some volume. I know I keep saying it but it's difficult to juggle normal life with my poker playing life sometimes, even more so now I am spending around an hour a night watching videos and taking notes.

Since starting playing HUSNG with a $150 roll back on May 10, I have played 70 games, 69 of the $5.25 and one $2.15 game I registered for by accident! I have cashed in 62.9% of my games, leading to an ROI of 20.7%. If only I had played more! I'm averaging four matches per day when I was initially aiming for 12-20 per day. This needs to be addressed or I'll be at the $5.25 games forever.

Not including the rest of today there are four days left of May and I will make sure I reach 100 games before May ends, meaning I need to fit in 30 HUSNG before midnight May 31. If my win rate stays around the same then I should be bankrolled to play the $10.50's in June and maybe that will inspire me to log some extra volume as my potential earnings will double. Overall though I cannot complain, I'm winning and winning well and I feel like I have learned so much about heads-up poker in the past two/three weeks that I could hold my own in games much higher than the $5.25 ones I'm currently at. Time to start grinding I guess.

Bankroll currently stands at $232.35

As always thanks for reading and best of luck at the tables!
