Falling back in love with poker

Over the past couple of months, my love for poker has dwindled away, but after an amazing poker-filled weekend, my love for poker has returned and has a renewed vigour.

I had previously mentioned I had lost focus from my game due to trying to play how everyone else says I should and by starting silly little challenges so on Friday I decided to play in a €10 MTT that had an extra €500 added to the prize pool with a €500 bounty for knocking out Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliot. Over all there were 190 runners, meaning the top 18 were paid and a nice, healthy €577 FTW.

Once my table opened, I was happy to see Devilfish in my big blind, meaning I was in with a chance of stacking him and winning the €500 bounty. I played pretty tight, only because I was receiving no cards at all, and managed to steal the 'fish's blind, my claim to fame.

Then came this hand, where I massively sucked out on him. It was pure luck but in my defence I had started too really loosen up at this stage and had open-raised in late position at least five times in the last six orbits, plus I'd been drinking Red Stripe too! Anyway, Devilfish berated me for my bad play but I managed to make him laugh and calm down when I told him that is why I play €10 games and he travels the world!

Some will say justice was served when I almost busted him out of the tournament but someone hit their gutshot on the river to claim the pot and bounty, despite me being an almost 75% favourite on the turn. I was gutted as this not only damaged my stack but also took my chance of a much needed bankroll and life-roll boost. To cut a long story short, the Poker Gods (amen) decided to reward me by letting me run like Usain Bolt and come third for a very welcomed €198. Ship it! Although "winning" an online tournament is great for your confidence, it was some live poker I played over the weekend that has made me want to get back to the online tables and grind away and make some serious money!

Over the weekend I was busy representing Raise The River in the UK Forum Team Challenge, hosted by the Newcastle Poker Forum at the Grosvenor Casino in Newcastle. I had an absolutely brilliant time mixing with my Raise The River team-mates and some fellow bloggers, but seeing as I am running out of space here, I will do a trip report in my next entry.

As always, thanks for reading and best of luck at the tables.

We like it because people don't see us running round the room when we have got an excellent hand or throwing the mouse at the wall when losing.
