A good start to May at the tables

I've been reading a ton of blogs (writes Yorkshire Pud) over the past week and one thing that became apparent was the amount of people who had a poor month at the tables during April, myself included, and that they all hoped the month of May would bring better fortune. Well, May has started off pretty well for me and I've managed to play a ton of hands in the past week, in fact I've played more hands in the first 10 days of May than I have probably played in the past 2-3 months and I'm finding it very easy to grind.

I'm writing this entry after just finishing a horrible session where I played 971 and lost four buy-ins so I'm trying not to be negative. I made some questionable calls but when you run KK into a set of Jacks against a very loose player and then decide your TPTK is good against a total fish only to find out he's flopped top set on you for a full stack you know it's just not going to be your day. I lost count of the amount of times I had my continuation bets raised when I had nothing and also the amount of times where my opponents folded when I actually had something! LOL! That's poker for you, sometimes you can't do right for doing wrong! I did have the hand histories for you but the converter seems to be playing up for me!

Like I said though I have been grinding like mad this month and have played the grand total of 12,073 hands in 8 days which I think is pretty awesome! I've been playing between 9-12 tables and things have been going pretty well really and I am up 15 buy-ins in total so the bankroll is the highest it has been for a long while. Of course it was much prettier an hour ago but it's still very healthy and I know I can win back today's losses with plenty of interest on top. I'm a total software geek and have some that shows your luck factor in all-in situations and according to that I am running just over a buy-in over expectation so I kind of expected some like the previous session to happen. I have another program that tells me I owed some flopped sets from the RNG! I've seen a flop with 519 pairs and flopped a set 51 times when it should be a little closer to 60. It also shows I have actually lost money with 333, 444 and TTT and that I have had my set beaten by a higher set once and that I have run overpairs into sets a massive 5 times which overall has cost me a whopping 6 buyins! Never mind, it'll all come together in the end.

It's around two months since I last saw Pud Jr after his mum decided in all her wisdom to stop me from having access to him on weekends. I've fired a letter to her solicitor but as usually she's dragging her feet over it but I am prepared to wait and fight this to the end. I ran out of money the last time we needed solicitors but I guarantee that won't be the case this time around. I don't believe in much but I do believe in Karma and also that everything happens for a reason. I know that when Pud Jr is older and understands more and he asks "Dad, why didn't you come to my birthday party / sports day / school play / parents evening" or "why weren't you around as much as I'd have liked?" etc then I can hold my head up high and say I wanted to but your mum never told me about them and wanted me to jump through hoops just to talk to you. She's the one who has to explain why she thought it would be a good idea to try ruin his relationship with me, my parents and those around me he'd made friends with out of spite, I can just say ask your mother. People get what is due to them and I'm looking forward to the day this is resolved and Karma comes around and bites them all on the arse! LOL!

Anyway, that's enough ranting for now, I think I'll get dressed and do a bit of shopping! I'm well on course for my best month profit wise and volume wise and by the next time I update I'm hoping to have played closer to 25k hands and be properly bankrolled for NL25. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for reading, have a great weekend and best of luck at the tables!

We all have some funny stories to tell of bad runs at poker followed by some good runs followed by some bad runs lol

You just have to try to minimize your losses when it's running bad and maximize your profit when it's running good, but that's easier said than done sometimes.

We just have to keep improving our game and hopefully we can catch a bit of luck to go with it more often than not ;-)

Nice work Pud, I'll take a look at those bits of software you mentioned on my blog.

What do you count as "properly rolled" for 25NL? I moved up at $750 last time and got thoroughly shafted by a 15 buy-in downswong :( This time I may set a stop-loss of 3 or 4 buy-ins then force myself to go back to 10NL 'till I recover.

Keep building fish, take your time and you will be rewarded mate, gl

    Thanks for stopping buy guys.

Simon - I honestly think that 20 buy-ins is fine for NL20-25 especially full ring. Like you said, setting a stoploss is the key otherwise it could take you an age to get back rolled again.

Anyways... small world, I also live and work in Leeds! Also 26, we probably played live together at some point if you've ever ventured into the bizarre worlds of Gala or Napoleans on Wellington street.
