A Chip, a chair and a cut and shut!
Pud's Poker Progress

A couple of months ago I wrote an article for Betfair's WSOP site about the chip and a chair story involving Jack 'Tree Top' Strauss. Anyone who is interested in poker will know the aphorism and on Wednesday night, I was involved in a similar scenario.
Having moved my bankroll back to Betfair, mainly because it is perfect for me in terms of traffic, software compatibility, fishiness and financial security, I found myself in a $5.50 deep stack tournament. I am not really a fan of turbo formats but with a starting stack of 5,000 there was plenty of room to play early on.
I battled away and managed to build up to around 9,000 when disaster struck. I had been bullying the BB, a fellow largish stack, for the past 15 minutes and I knew he was getting pissed off with me. Once again it folds round to me and I make my standard stealing raise but this time I have a hand, KK so when the BB raises me I just shove on him hoping he calls me pretty lightly. Indeed he does call, with AJo and spikes a jack to leave me with just 595 chips at the 200/400/20 level! Ooops!
Very next hand I double up with my QQ and then somehow take the blinds and antes with T9s. I go quiet for two hands before finding AK, shoving, getting three callers and turning two pair to triple up! Within twenty minutes of being crippled I was back in the top five in chips! LOL! Anyway, to cut a very long story short, I managed to reach the final table as the short-stack but the cards went my way and I took the whole thing down for $99. Now, I will not be able to retire but after the horrific September I had to endure, $99 is a very welcomed boost to my bankroll!
I have also been playing a few SnG too as there is a promotion running which pays out $1,000 to the top 20 players at the small stakes SnG. To be honest, I am not even close to a very good SnG player but I have done ok so far, making $46 from the 24 games I have played thus far. If I could log some proper volume in these I would be very confident of making the leader board, as it is I am currently 66th with 2,900 points. Updated Stats = here.
My cash game seems to be suffering as a result of my tournament play and I am simply bluffing too much and at the wrong times. I lost a whole stack last night triple barrel bluffing with 8h7h against guy who was never folding in a million years and I was irate with myself. I am in two minds whether to carry on with the SnG's as the standard is shockingly bad, or try to get out of my cash rut, as the latter is my bread and butter game really.
A quick apology too to anyone who was on my table in the $5+0.50 rebuy the other night. I worked my nuts off to be in a strong position after the rebuy period but all my hard work was undone by a ridiculous beat from the worst player at the table. He basically bet out and then called my shove with nothing but a gutshot draw and obviously hit. I had been taking advantage of Asda's 3 for £10 wine offer and I was out of order with some of the comments I typed in the chat box but I can laugh today at the fact I offered to play him heads up for my entire bankroll! LMFAO! Do not drink and play kids!
There is nothing much else to report right now except I found out that my car was a category C write off in December 2007 after suffering "extensive damage" and the insurers chose not to repair it. The car is safe and has a full MOT but I do need to get it checked to prove it has not got stolen parts in it at a nice cost of £38 and a trip all the way to Doncaster! I have friends in that neck of the woods so I'll probably pay them a visit so it is not a wasted journey.
I'll leave it there for now, say goodbye and hope that October continues to be kind to me!
As always, thanks for reading and best of luck at the tables!
