Poker is no game of dumb luck. Luck plays a part but is far from all. (The Poker Anorak's AQ was taken out by AJ rivering a J on Sunday.) The better player usually outs.
But there is no way of telling who the better player is until the game begins.
In Mark Twain's work, Life on the Mississippi, the great American author tells the story of card cheats who try to rob a hick farmer.
The pot builds. The hustlers go all in. "Four Kings, you damned fool!" declares the ringleader. "Four Aces, you ass!" comes the farmer's riposte. The winner pulls out a cocked revolver. "I'm a professional gambler myself and I've been laying for you duffers all this voyage!" he yells.
The rest is not hard to imagine, let us just say it is a harsh and brutal judgment. The moral is that you can never judge a book by its cover. Although dark glasses do say something about the wearer. Buzzer's poker tips
