Premier League Darts Night 8 Newcastle Tips: Littler to put in another large performance

Premier League Darts Trophy
Luke Littler will be looking to strengthen his position at the top of the Premier League table

As we head to the North East for night eight of this year's darts Premier League, the fixtures are determined by league positions meaning things don't get any easier for Stephen Bunting...

  • Luke Littler to pick up more points

  • Gerwyn Price looking to build on weekend displays

  • The Asp will be full of confidence

Having picked up his third nightly win of the campaign in Cardiff last week, reigning Premier League champion Luke Littler has stretched his lead at the top of the table to six points, he is now 5/61.84 to make it back-to-back wins at The O2 in May, with Luke Humphries 11/43.75 to go one step further than he did last year.

Littler to add more points

Littler and Stephen Bunting couldn't have experienced more contrasting fortunes in this year's Premier League. The reigning champion has won more nights than anyone else, has a running average in excess of 104 and the highest checkout percentage of the entire field, sitting pretty at the top of the table and picking and choosing Pro Tour events, in order to remain fresh and well rested.

As for Bunting, he's endured a torrid time of things in his first campaign in a decade. The majority of weeks have rolled by and we've been talking about The Bullet's high level in defeat but last week was the first where he significantly underperformed. In a match between seventh and eighth in the table, he carved out plenty of opportunities for himself but ended the contest with just 12% checkout success.

It's hard to see anything other than a Nuke win in the opener, with The Bullet's confidence taking a sizable hit, it'll be incredibly difficult for him to stop the rot in Newcastle.

At 13/102.30, I'm backing Littler to hit the most 180s, hit the highest checkout and win the match.

Price to exact revenge on Rob

For the second successive week, Gerwyn Price takes on Rob Cross. Voltage put a stop to the Welshman's party in Cardiff with a stunning 170 checkout to complete a 6-5 win and make it three triumphs in their last four matches.

However, The Iceman this year has been a different beast and having put in winning averages of 104 and 111 at the European Darts Trophy at the weekend before losing with a 107, he will have left with immense confidence and has reason to head up North hopeful that he can maintain his position inside the league's top four.

I'm backing the Welshman to average +97.5 in this one at 5/61.84.

Humphries looking to put Cardiff frustration behind him

Chris Dobey and Luke Humphries collide for the third time in this year's Premier League with Cool Hand coming out on top in the previous two meetings. Whilst he looked a little jaded, quite subdued and tired at times during the weekend's event in Germany, he'll be desperate to get back to winning ways in this tournament, having suffered his third quarter-final exit of the season last week.

Asp hoping to build on amazing win

Nathan Aspinall heads to Newcastle fresh from his first ever win on the Euro Tour at the weekend where he had a running average of 98, hit 21 180s, blew away the world number one with a stunning display and reeled in the big fish to force a decider in his semi-final, all en route to the title.

Michael van Gerwen has won five of their last six meetings but with that victory on Sunday, The Asp has eased the pressure on himself to qualify for things like the World Grand Prix and at 6/42.50 to get the win over MvG on Thursday night, I'd certainly be tempted, given his recent form.
