Jaymes Monte's midweek multiple takes in action from Wales, Scotland and Australia....
Bet 1: Snooker - Welsh Open
The Newport Centre in Wales hosts the second major event of the calendar year and the second of Barry Hearn's reign as Chairman of World Snooker. This is the sort of event which will provide the biggest task for Hearn and his attempts to rejuvenate the game, as can be seen by the sparse crowds attending the event.
There are certain types of players who tend to thrive on the shorter format matches which are to be contested in Wales. One of those being the youngster who has long been tipped for a break through into the world's top 16, Judd Trump. He comes up against the newly crowned Masters Champion Mark Selby in the first round of this event and I fancy him to pull off a prized scalp.
Selby is famed for his battling mentality and can often fall a couple of frames behind before springing into action, he can't afford that luxury here and Trump can prosper. There is also a chance that 'The Jester from Leicester' may suffer from a slight hangover and may not adjust quickly enough to the step back down to playing in front of small crowds. At [3.1] Trump is my first bet of this week's treble.
Selection: Back Trump to beat Selby @ [3.1]
Bet 2: Football - Scottish Premier League
In the immediate aftermath of Craig Levein's departure from Dundee United, in order to take up the national team hot seat, it looked as though he had taken The Arabs' European aspirations with him. However, they have bounced back amicably from a humiliating 7-1 defeat at Ibrox and now occupy third place in the SPL table.
Three victories to nil were followed up by a 4-1 win at Falkirk on Sunday which included a Jon Daly hat-trick. The run of good form and tightening at the back has coincided with the arrival of a Craig Levein signing, Slovakian goalkeeper Dusan Pernis, who has commanded his defence with great authority whilst pulling off match winning saves in the process.
This midweek they face their (geographically) nearest SPL rivals St Johnstone on their home patch and are available to back at a rather generous [1.75]. The Saints were on the other end of a confidence sapping 4-1 score line at the weekend and won't have enough to derail United's European dream.
Selection: Back Dundee United to beat St Johnstone @ [1.75]
Bet 3: Tennis - Australian Open
Aside from an opening set scare in his first round match against Igor Andreev, Roger Federer has been impeccable in his attempt to regain his Australian Open crown. Now at the quarter-final stage he takes on the in-form Russian, Nikolay Davydenko who came through a five set thriller against Fernando Verdasco in the last round.
Davydenko has won the last two encounters between the players but I feel that it is now time for the Swiss to restore his authority. Both of those victories came in three set encounters and I feel that with the bit between his teeth in a Grand Slam tournament you have to side with the man who has the greatest experience at this level. I am completing my treble this week with a back of Federer at the [1.4] on offer for him to dismiss the Russian.
Selection: Back Federer to beat Davydenko @ [1.4]
