Fabregas’s absence will be cause for concern for Arsenal, but it won’t stop them winning this one comfortably.
Back Arsenal to beat Portsmouth @ 1.55
Back Stompe to beat Dudbridge @ 1.7
Back Tsonga to beat Davydenko @ 2.8
Treble pays @ 7.3
After the Christmas multiple came agonisingly close, Jaymes Monte hopes to sign off the year in style with a Darts, Football, Tennis combo......
Bet 1: Football - Premier League
Arsenal and particularly Cesc Fabregas served up a stark reminder to Aston Villa earlier this week that they are not yet one of the big boys. It was a performance which sent out a message to the rest of the league that they are entirely serious about their title aspirations this year.
However, it did come at a price as Fabregas's cameo appearance has resulted in him aggravating his hamstring injury and he will be forced to sit out the trip to Portsmouth. The length and severity of the Spaniard's injury will determine whether his introduction into the game was a masterstroke or slightly naive.
Regardless of his injury Arsenal should still have enough to claim all three points at Fratton Park. Pompey's win over Liverpool shocked many last week but they reverted to type against West Ham and they don't have the dexterity or quality to beat this classy Arsenal side. Wenger knows the importance of this game and a win would round off a fabulous Christmas for the Gunners.
Selection: Back Arsenal to beat Portsmouth @ [1.55]
Bet 2: Darts - PDC World Championships
A nine-darter, impressive averages, shock results and some nail biting tension have all contributed to what has been a thrilling tournament to date, and we're barely past the second round of games.
Dutchman Co Stompe clearly has some sort of magical powers when it comes to the Alexandra Palace; it was here that he made his name and gained his popularity at last year's tournament, he has now comfortably beaten the world number five Mervyn King in this year's tournament, and he was the man who 'had a word' with Raymond van Barneveld immediately prior to his nine-darter.
He must now revert his attentions to his own game as a place in the quarter-finals awaits. Mark Dudbridge stands in his way after he himself had an impressive victory over Alan Tabern in the second round and this could prove to be a fascinating battle.
It will be interesting to see how Stompe copes with the unfamiliar favourite's tag at this stage of the tournament but if he can take some of his own advice which he offered to Barney I think he will do just fine.
Selection: Back Stompe to beat Dudbridge @ [1.7]
Bet 3: Tennis - Capitala World Tennis
There is little time for rest and recuperation at the top of this game and that is highlighted by the timing of this tournament and the forthcoming Australian Open. Whilst it is easy to accuse the players of playing this tournament for financial gain it does provide them with a good opportunity to warm-up for the first Grand Slam of the year.
Nikolay Davydenko ended 2009 in great style by winning the ATP World Tour title in London, now he must look to build on that and add that elusive Grand Slam title to his C.V.. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga provides his first challenge of this tournament and this will be the Frenchman's first appearance in this new exhibition event.
Davydenko made it to the semi-finals last year but he didn't come into that on the back of quite such a gruelling previous 12 months. I think the slightly younger and fresher Tsonga has the game to beat the Russian in this one. His power from the baseline can tire the fittest of opponents and if he can get his backhand down the line going, he is a match for anyone. There is certainly value in backing him at the prices available here.
Selection: Back Tsonga to beat Davydenko @ [2.8]
