Timeform Dubai SmartPlays: Meydan, Thursday January 22

David Simcock's Starboard has a good chance in the last
David Simcock's Starboard has a good chance in the last

Timeform's Dubai expert, Stephen Molyneux, was in great form last week, firing in two winners, and he brings you another three bets at Meydan...

David Simcock has enjoyed great success at Meydan with the likes of Trade Storm, and more recently, Sheikhzayedroad, and his Starboard should go well in the concluding handicap at 17:25.

Dhruba Selvaratnam has his team peaking at just the right time and Dormello is taken to confirm the promise of his last run by winning the handicap at 15:05. United Color and Roicead were both impressive winners for the team last week and Dormello also looks to be coming to the boil. He was fourth behind Haatheq on his return before catching the eye over an inadequate trip of seven furlongs last time, running on into seventh behind Anaerobio without being knocked about. All his best form in France came over a mile and a half on turf, conditions he's rarely faced in the UAE, and he should at least offer some value in what is a competitive affair.

The Al Fahidi Fort at 16:50 isn't the strongest Group 2 ever to be run at Meydan and it may pay to stick with the recent form of Anaerobio who comfortably won a C&D handicap on the opening night of the Carnival. You could point to him being a six-year-old with plenty of miles on the clock, but he is actually unexposed over seven furlongs, and has won his last 2 starts over this trip. He travelled very well when getting the better of Iguazu Falls a couple of weeks ago, that one flattered by his proximity, and he again should get a good tow into the race from stall 1. It looks significant that Christophe Soumillon has chosen to ride him over Gale Force Ten and the hint should be worth taking.

David Simcock has enjoyed great success at Meydan with the likes of Trade Storm, and more recently, Sheikhzayedroad, and his Starboard should go well in the concluding handicap at 17:25. He was promising when trained by John Gosden in 2012, hitting the frame in a pair of Group 2s, but failed to run to that level for a couple of different yards last season. The switch to Simcock's yard will hopefully spark a revival, and if it does, he looks well handicapped off a mark of 104 here.
