Timeform Australia give their three best bets on the Apollo Stakes card.
"Shoot Out showed there he can fire fresh at the highest level and the price currently on offer for the High Chaparral gelding in Saturday’s Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) is mighty appealing."
The Group 2 Apollo Stakes headlines racing at Warwick Farm this Saturday with the event playing host to seven Group 1 winners. Shoot Out resumes on Saturday following a short spring preparation where his biggest claim to fame was taking out the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) first up. The Chris Waller-trained gelding showed there he can fire fresh at the highest level and the price currently on offer for the High Chaparral gelding in Saturday's Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) is mighty appealing.
While Peter Snowden's attentions will largely be focused on Caulfield for Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m), the leading trainer possesses a number of strong chances throughout Warwick Farm's eight race program. Knoydart is one such hope contesting Race 2, a Benchmark 75 3YO Handicap (1400m). The More Than Ready colt was game when fourth in the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1400m) at Caulfield last start and should relish the drop back to this sort of company. A bold effort during Knoydart's first foray into Group racing augers nicely for the three-year-olds chances on Saturday where the up and coming type rates well superior to his rivals on 50 day Timeform figures. Something else which should not be forgotten was Knoydart's dominant maiden success at this course three back over 1300m.
Stablemate Skytrain ticks all the right boxes heading into the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m). The honest sprinter worked home well last start when running second in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) behind Happy Galaxy. Skytrain now contests a race of less depth and appears thrown into the event carrying 57kg courtesy of Streama compressing the weights. A winner at the track, adept in all going and boasting race fitness over many of his rivals, the dual stakes-winner should be claiming his first success at Group level on Saturday.
The Lonhro gelding has a particular liking for give out of the ground so anticipated rain in Sydney over the coming 48 hours would further enhance his claims.
