Timeform Notebook: Ty Gwr the Ellison eyecatcher
Brian Ellison can coax some improvement out of Ty Gwr

That Beverley effort came over an extended mile, but Ty Gwr is also proven over one and a half miles so he has plenty of options available to him...

Following a profitable week for Notebook followers, Timeform identify a handicapper worth keeping on the right side...

Ty Gwr hasn't been with the excellent Brian Ellison for long and plenty of encouragement can be taken from his first three starts for the shrewd handler. Having chased home an unexposed three-year-old on his debut for the yard, Ty Gwr was slightly disappointing at Kempton, albeit unsuited by the way the race developed, but he bounced back to his best at Beverley last week, staying on strongly from an unpromising position to finish a close-up third.

Ty Gwr left the strong impression that he should have won at Beverley and compensation shouldn't be long in coming, especially when you consider that he hasn't been with Ellison for long. That Beverley effort came over an extended mile, but Ty Gwr is also proven over one and a half miles so he has plenty of options available to him. Given his reasonably late start to the campaign (made his seasonal debut in August) Ty Gwr could enjoy a profitable time on the all-weather over the winter and should be followed closely.

Timeform Flat Notebook 2013:

It was a good week for the Notebook as Doc Hay, who had been threatening to come good, obliged in a six-furlong Ripon handicap at a generous BSP of 13.04 having been extremely weak in the market. The Ripon success was up there with the best of Doc Hay's previous efforts and he should continue to give a good account. He holds an entry in a five-furlong listed race at Ascot on Saturday.

Integral wasn't quite ready for Group 1 company when finishing mid-field in the Nassau Stakes but that experience seemed to help her as she produced a clear career-best effort to finish runner-up in the Sun Chariot Stakes. It is worth remembering that this has been Integral's first season of racing and she could well return next year a stronger and more clued-up proposition.

Deserted, who finished sixth at Goodwood last week, failed to reproduce the form that she had shown on her handicap debut but it is too soon to be writing her off and she deserves another chance.

Pether's Moon - Authoritative winner at Goodwood and shaped well in defeat at Doncaster.
Cape Peron - Has shaped very well in two ultra-competitive handicaps. Pattern-level performer.
Integral - Boasts a good strike-rate and improved to finish second in a Group 1 at Newmarket.
Kingman - Impressive on both starts and one of this season's leading juveniles.
Deserted - Worth remembering the good attitude she showed to win on handicap debut at Yarmouth.
Brass Ring - Form has worked out exceptionally well and is extremely well treated.
Our Queenie - Ran to a strong timefigure on last start and should excel in nursery company for the rest of the season.
Breden - Twice successful this term and better than he showed when unsuited by steady pace at Sandown.
Midnight Rider - A strong-travelling sprinter who is ready to strike granted a strong pace.
Music Master - Consistent performer who is effective over seven furlongs but promises to be suited by six.
Spiritoftomintoul - Completely unexposed over staying distances.
Cafe Society - Strong-travelling type who has shaped extremely well in defeat on his latest two outings.
Doc Hay - Confirmed impression he was building up to something when winning at Ripon. Will continue in form.
Farlow - Shaped well at Ayr last time and can get back to winning ways now back to a workable mark.
Ty Gwr - Unlucky in defeat at Beverley and capable of winning for shrewd handler.
