Sforzando likely to falter on the artificial Wolverhampton track..
Today's race is the 16:10 Wolverhampton, it's a class 6 handicap over 1 1/2 mile. Sforzando is forecast favourite, trained by Mrs Stubbs and ridden by Tom Eaves.
Sforzando is an absolute rogue of the highest order. She won a class 5 handicap from a mark of 66 on good-firm at Nottingham last time over 10 furlongs. She always goes well at Nottingham though and has a 100% track record. She is a better turf horse than she is on polytrack and was unplaced on 4 of her 5 runs at Wolverhampton without ever winning on this surface. Those defeats came from marks of 65, 63, 62, 62 and 60 and she is likely to struggle racing off 67 under a 6 lbs penalty today. She is a mare carrying top weight in a handicap and on the 6 occasions she has carried 9-7 or more, she has always finished unplaced.
The horse clearly does not like Wolverhampton and nor does her jockey Tom Eaves as he's ridden just 2 winners from 72 rides in 2007 at the track so this pair make a lovely combination.
Alonso De Guzman and Compton Dragon can go well in an open handicap but I will be laying the abysmal Sforzando.
Today's lay finished unplaced
