13:50 Sandown - Gothic
I had pretty high hopes for him at the start of the year - in handicap terms anyway - and he went some way to justifying that kind of optimism when second at Goodwood last time, where he met plenty of trouble in running. Everyone who watched the race knows that he probably should have won there but I wouldn't get too carried away with the form - it didn't look that strong a race and he has been upped 2lb for it - but at least it was a big improvement from his reappearance effort here, he finished his race off well, and I would hope that he would be able to build on that.
In fact, he has definitely gone the right way at home since. And I think this better ground will suit too, although I wouldn't want it too fast for him. He has an obvious chance and will probably be favourite but this race could take a lot of winning, with at least two of three potentially big improvers in here.
14:20 Sandown - Enobled
This horse is an enigma, and I am struggling to work him out. At home, he works with some of our better horses, and I can tell you that he is not disgraced at all. And if he could translate that level of form to the track, then he would be a near-certainty off a mark of 84 here. But he has gone backwards since his Goodwood maiden win, finished last here last season, and was towards the rear in the Spring Cup on his reappearance. Like I said, if he runs up to his home ability, then he would just about win this, particularly as he is well drawn in two and will like it if it is good ground. But your guess is as good as mine as to how he will run.
15:30 Sandown - Tagula Night
Is a dual course and distance winner who comes here in good form after just being touched off in the soft at Nottingham last time. The problem is that he is 2lb higher today and is drawn in 12, pretty big negatives in a race as tight as this. But he does go well here, has good ground form and the blinkers are back on, so we will see.
16:05 Sandown - Galvanize
Was beaten at odds-on on his reappearance, but returned the favour when upsetting a short-priced favourite over 6f at Ripon last month. Looks fairly treated on that win, no more, but hopefully there is more to come from him and this extra furlong won't be an issue.
16:40 Sandown - Karraar
Has shown a consistent level of form in maidens so far, and probably ran his best race yet when third in a decent Newmarket race over 1m4f last time. Had earlier shown form over 1m/1m2f, so the step back in trip should be fine, and he is one of the form horses coming into the race. But there are plenty of unexposed sorts in this race.
17:10 Sandown - Spice Fair
Comes here on the back of a win at Kempton last time, but he has gone up 4lb for that narrow victory, is badly drawn in 12 and it certainly wouldn't be ideal if the ground got too fast. But at least he is in decent nick, and he is a course and distance winner - I rode him in one of those victories, as well as when winning on him one day at Kempton - who finished second in this race last season.
