Ryan Moore opens up the 2019 St Leger meeting with three rides in some winnable races. Get his view on the trio here...
"Misty Grey ran well below par in the Gimcrack last time but earlier efforts at Newbury and in the Richmond Stakes mark him out as a decent colt. So if he runs up to his best, one of the others is going to need to be pretty smart to beat him."
My mount sets form standard
13:50 - Misty Grey
He is clearly up against it with three unexposed once-raced winners in here but Misty Grey sets the form standard going into the race. He ran well below par in the Gimcrack last time but his earlier efforts at Newbury and in the Richmond Stakes mark him out as a decent colt. So if he runs up to his best, one of the others is going to need to be pretty smart to beat him. The Dubai colt Lazuli did look pretty useful at Newmarket, though.
Newmarket form would make mine the one to beat
15:00 - Equilateral
It looks like my colt, along with El Astronaute and Tis Marvellous, are the three to concentrate on in here. I suppose some may think he hasn't gone on as expected after his win here last season but he is a very smart sprinter on his day, as he showed when a narrow second to Mabs Cross in the Palace House Stakes in May. Equilateral hasn't run up to that level in two starts since, though he ran well enough at Royal Ascot, and 5f and quick ground are his ideal conditions. He is the one to beat if reproducing that Newmarket run.
Penultimate race is wide open
16:45 - Walkinthesand
I was happy enough with his fourth at Haydock on Saturday, especially as the soft ground wouldn't have been to his liking. He will be far more at home on this quicker surface and he has chances if coming back to the form of his Newmarket win in July. But Loxley will be a tough nut to crack if returning to his three-year-old best after being gelded since his last run. You can actually make a case for them all in here, in fact.
