Ryan Moore is at Ascot on Saturday but took the time out to give us his exclusive thoughts on the big race of the day, the Sprint Cup at Haydock. Who makes his 1-2-3?
"I know that Sole Power isn’t 100% proven as fully effective over this trip – his best form clearly is over 5f - but this is a pretty easy 6f, and he is the form choice and likeliest winner on fast ground."
15:50 Haydock - Sprint Cup
With 18-runners on a pretty narrow track, I can see five or six hard-luck stories in this Group 1 Sprint.
The first thing to say is that a lot of the early pace seems to be drawn high on the stands side, and some of the jockeys will have to make an early decision as to whether to vie for the lead, or take a pull and sit in behind. They include horses such as Astaire, Pearl Secret and Hot Streak.
I know that Sole Power isn't 100% proven as fully effective over this trip - his best form clearly is over 5f - but this is a pretty easy 6f, and he is the form choice and likeliest winner on fast ground.
I also have a lot time for another strong-travelling horse that will seek cover and come from behind in the shape of Music Master, while Haydock's flat, easy, 6f should suit Extortionist.
So they would be my idea of the 1-2-3.
But then you look at last year's easy winner Gordon Lord Byron, July Cup runner-up Tropics and G-Force, and that gives you some idea of the strength in depth of this race. To state the obvious, it will take some winning, and plenty of luck in running, too.
